Psalm – Chapter 69

  • I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. This will please the Lord more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. Psalms 69:30-31 – God wants your praise more than your stuff. An offering to God that doesn’t have the worshipful heart behind it doesn’t mean much to God. God speaks of wanting a cheerful giver. God says the sacrifices of God are a broken and contrite heart. What then is your heart behind what you give to God? A penny with a worshipful heart is more pleasing to God than a million dollars with a inwardly focused heart. So don’t be caught up on what and how much you give, be caught on what your heart looks like when you give. If you want God to be blessed by your offering, come with the right heart. • For the Lord hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners. Psalm 69:33 – Our Heavenly Father hears and our Heavenly Father comes through for His people. This is a promise we see replayed throughout scripture, God rescuing His followers from their distress. Yet today, I’m preaching on a passage where God’s people cry out to Him and He says no. He doesn’t come and save them. What we’re going to see today is that the deep sin in our story can cloud clear communication with God and can even cause God’s response to be a no to our cry. Yes, He comes through for His people, but when we’re following our sin are we truly still faithfully pursuing God? It’s impossible to follow both so God will allow us the choice of who we want to follow, and as a result, who will be the one to save us in our time of need. If we follow God, He’ll be our shelter. If we choose sin over God, God will sometimes allow us in our times of need to see how much sin truly can offer us. This is not God giving up on us, it’s God giving us a chance to see we need Him in our story, not sin. What sin then have you been holding onto and finding shelter in? Lay it at the feet of Jesus so you can freely experience God’s rescue in your time of need. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2029
