Psalm – Chapter 68

  • Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God! Psalm 68:35 – “Awesome” is the perfect way to describe the God described within this psalm. We see a God who is more powerful than any force that comes against Him. Enemies of all size melt away from God like wax before fire. This God is the father to the fatherless and the protector of widows. The earth quakes as this God steps onto the scene. As He moves the lands and His people in His wake are provided for with an abundance. At His command are thousands upon thousands of chariots ready to defeat any foe. He brings blessing, salvation, and deliverance…and this is our God. Can any other word better describe such a God than awesome? While life currently for you may be filled with so many uncertainties and hardships, please remember the God in your story is not some weakling god who can’t handle the challenges in your life right now. You have an awesome God in your story today. Before the Lord every demon coming against you quakes in fear. Before the Lord every difficulty in our story looks small. Our God reigns on heaven and earth with wisdom and power and love. Our God is an awesome God. Remember this reality when the realities of this life seem overwhelming. As great as the challenges in this life are, our God is greater. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3481

  • Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Psalms 68:19 – Have you ever stopped to think about what it means that God is our salvation daily? We understand He is our salvation for eternal life after death, but what about the part of that eternal life that began the moment we accepted God’s gift of grace? We started our eternal life when we said yes to Jesus which means daily we are living in God’s salvation and daily He is holding us up. Our life with God doesn’t start the moment we die, it started the moment we said yes to Jesus. He now is holding us up and holding us together day in and day out. God wanted a life with you that didn’t have to wait to begin till you passed from this one, He is active now in your story. Blessed be the Lord for sure. • Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. God settles the solitary in a home; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land. Psalm 68:5-6 – For me this has been a passage I continue to dwell on in my whole foster/adoptive journey. That God is a Father to those who don’t have a father in their story. While that is the role God takes on for all, He also calls us to be imitators of Him in Ephesians 5:1. So while He’s being a father, we should be too. While He is being a protector, we should be too. While He is leading those captive into freedom, we should be too. This psalm reminds us of the grandeur of God, and while we should dwell in awe of it, let it also remind you that you’ve been called to be a follower of Jesus. What you see in Jesus is what you should seek to become. No, not meaning becoming the central price of all worship, but as Jesus is serving and loving, so should we. Who then needs a father? Who then needs a protector? Who needs a guide towards freedom? God’s stepping up to do His part, let’s be true followers of Jesus and imitate God like we’re called to.
