- You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it. Psalm 65:9 – As I write this devotion I’m in the middle of a preaching series on the story of the woman and the well in John 4. In that story Jesus approaches a woman who by worldly and spiritual standards was thirsty. She was emptied emotionally from the weight of her communities’ shame on her and longed for a change in her story. Jesus then shows up on the scene and tells her that in Him she can find eternal life. That He can give her living water that will spring up within her refreshing her life always. Such is the beauty told to us in this psalm. From God comes a river full of water. It provided for the whole earth, every meadow and valley would be fruitful with abundance. Know that in the Lord every meadow and valley in your story can be fruitful with abundance too. God brings into the life of those who follow Him an eternal life that provides in ways that nothing of this world can. It can flood us with joy and peace when we need it, and it offers us a security knowing that the God who fashioned the Heavens is always with us. If then, like the woman at the well, you are desiring a change in your story for your story right now feels quite empty, then let that change be a life after Jesus. Let the river of life that God brings to any who follow Him feed into your story today. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3478
- When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions. Psalms 65:3 – Let’s unpack this. When the guilt and shame of our sin presses down hard on us making us feel unworthy to come to God, God Himself makes things right and removes our sin. He removes what is keeping us from moving closer to Him. This demonstrates that God isn’t stopped by our sin from showing love to us. What presses us down doesn’t keep Him down. What overwhelms us doesn’t overwhelm Him. Don’t let the voice of guilt and shame deceive you into thinking God doesn’t want you. Jesus died so that sin no longer can have a say in how we approach the Father. Know today God has removed your sin from your story if you’ve placed your faith in Him. Come to Him free of guilt and shame because in God’s eyes you’re holy. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1001
- Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple! Psalm 65:4 – Whoever is chosen to be brought near and into the home of God is deeply blessed. They will find a contentment and deep satisfaction in their life because they have been brought into the arms and house of God. In most things in life, an offer like this is only for a select few, lucky winners. If you are the 10,000th person in or first to call you get the prize. If our God’s arms were small and house tiny then maybe that would be the case here….but that’s not the case. Our God’s arms are wide and house large. The promise of scripture is He has chosen all to come near and be invited in you His house. You have been chosen by God to be His and in His home with Him. As a result you are deeply blessed. Maybe the blessing isn’t in the shape of financial security or physical health, but if you’ve chosen to respond to God and follow Him, the blessing of being in His family and house is yours. Sure the blessing of money and healing of God can/may be given to you, but don’t set aside the blessing of being in His family as a second place gift. The deepest blessing anyone could ever receive is being called a son or daughter of God and if you’ve chosen to follow God that blessing is yours.
