- O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1 – From the notation prior to the start of this psalm, this was either written during, or at least looking back on, David’s time on the run in the wilderness. David was in a season of heaviness, of loneliness, of physical and spiritual need. Maybe that’s exactly where you are at currently too. Maybe the season you are in is overwhelmingly heavy to the point that you don’t know how you can keep standing anymore. Maybe the season you are in has fostered a sense of deep loneliness, that no one is with you and no one could understand. Maybe your body is feeling the strain and so is your spirit. David was here too, and in that spot David took the pathway I’m going to encourage you to take. Remember that God is your God. This amazing God who is able to handle things we can’t handle, who will never leave us, and who can meet our every need is not just the God of scripture or the God of other people. He’s your God too. Earnestly seek Him out in this season of dry and weariness. Seek Him out as if you were in a desert and knew He was the only source of water. For Jesus will be all you need. This life has a way of crushing us under its weight and struggles, but God has shown Himself true to be with us in all of it. - Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. Psalms 63:3 – God’s love is better than life, but how often do we find ourselves allowing our lives to say otherwise? I taught from 2 Timothy 4 last Wednesday night and shared about how Demas because of his love for the world left the mission. He was someone who showed with their life that he believed something else was better to pursue than God’s steadfast love. If God’s love is so much better than even life itself, why then does it not consume our thoughts and actions? Today is the perfect day to live out this truth that God’s love to us is better than life itself. Put Him first today in everything and seek out in everything how you can learn more about His love for you. If this love of God is so good like this, why wouldn’t we give up everything to pursue it? - My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.” Psalm 63:5-8 – The nature of David’s heart in all this is what I want to have. He is in true peace with God. Even with enemies around, even with the pressures of being king, even with all the other stressors that where in his story at that time, he had found peace in God. His soul was satisfied and his voice was filled with joyful praise. I pray today that you’ll latch onto the truth that there can be a joy and satisfaction in this life even if life itself is not joyful and satisfying right now. God’s hand is upholding us and we have found shade under His wing. We have life, forgiveness, and intimacy with God. So yes, life right now can be really crummy, but our heart can be satisfied with life because of Jesus. This takes a HUGE mindset change for sure and I still haven’t gotten it perfect yet myself. At least know today peace is available to you right this moment in Jesus. Life can be anything but peaceful at this moment, but in this moment Jesus is still able to be your peace.
