- He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness! Psalm 57:3 – Our psalm for today says it was written concerning the time David fled from Saul into the cave. Likely this was the cave of Adullam in 1 Samuel 22, which was a lonely time of deep struggle for David. As with previous psalms of David we see him crying out for God’s mercy to be shown to him in his pain, and while the answer to his prayer may not have come yet as he was writing the words to this psalm, David knew what was coming his way. He knew God would send His heavenly help to save him. All those who walked all over him would be soon put to shame themselves and he would be surrounded by God’s love and faithfulness. He believed the salvation he needed would come, and it did. Thankfully for us today this psalm has been fully fulfilled. Jesus, our sent from Heaven help, has come and has saved us. The enemy whose goal is to shame us has been trampled beneath the Savior’s feet. Now what we have in our life because of Jesus is a love that never ceases and a faithfulness from God that never fails. Our salvation has been sent. With that reality then understood, is our lives praising the Heaven-sent Savior like David praised the Lord? We have been rescued from our sin, our eternal home switched from Hell to Heaven, and we have been given God’s Holy Spirit thats abides within us. Even then if you are still in the season of hardship, we see from this psalm that we can still trust the Lord and give Him wondrous praise. What can help the most in those seasons is verbalizing the truth that scripture teaches that God saves His own. Know he sees, He cares, He’s sheltering you even as we speak, and He loves you…and lift such truths up to the Lord in your prayer life. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3012
- Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! Psalms 57:5 & 11 – The psalmist took a praise break. While in the midst of crying out to God about the struggle he was in, he took the time to allow some of those cries be ones of praise for how good and mighty God is. Be sure to let there be praise breaks within your cries to God too. God is open to share our struggles with but we must remember who His is and what He deserves. We must also remember all He has already done for us. Take then today some time in your normal conversation with God to have a praise break where you acknowledge how good, loving, and powerful He is. Not only does He deserve that, but you need reminders of that over your struggle too. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 993
- I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. Psalm 57:2 – The order to these words I believe is everything. To God who fulfills “his” purpose for “me.” Not who fulfills “my” purpose for “him.” Big difference. How God works and moves within our story is to fulfill the purposes and plans He has made for us. He gives to us to fulfill His plans and He takes away to fulfill His purposes. God is not bound to only move according to our purposes for Him. We don’t have that sort of authority over Jesus. We for sure are at the center of God’s heart of love, but we aren’t the center of all things. Jesus is. Meaning our purposes don’t come first. God isn’t focused on bringing our plans to life, He is working to bring His purposes for us to life in our story. Don’t let that though be a discouragement. If you are a focal point of God’s love, the moves He makes will be for your tremendous good, even if they don’t seem like it in the moment. Humbly remember who is God and who isn’t. Let’s place God on the throne and take ourselves off. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2017
