- He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah. Psalm 47:4 – As you read this psalm, your translation may say “inheritance” instead of heritage, but both are conveying the same idea. This amazing, praiseworthy God being spoken about within this psalm is choosing our inheritance that we’ll be receiving from Him. While that might not be exactly how we want this to work, for we may prefer to choose what we receive from the Lord, know God choosing our inheritance is far better than anything we could come up with. So what does scripture tells us is an a part of the inheritance we receive from the Lord? God has chosen to give us His love. God has chosen to adopt us into His family. God has chosen to make us holy. God has chosen to draw us near to His presence. This God who is worthy of the entire planet praising Him with one voice has chosen to love you and call you His own child. Let us then keep this mind-boggling truth in front of us when we are complaining about the hand we are dealt in life. Maybe we don’t have the same money others do, or the same family structure others do, or the same life others have. Maybe what they received from the Lord in those areas aren’t what we received. It’s easy to be dissatisfied and bitter about such an “inheritance” from the Lord in this life, but let us never forget the wonders we have been given through this great heritage we have as children of God. Even when life is exploding, we still have the richest of inheritances currently in our story because God has chosen to love us. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3002
- Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! Psalms 47:1 – I’ve heard it often that “____ isn’t me.” That clapping isn’t me. That singing out isn’t me. That lifting my hands isn’t me. What I’m learning here from scripture is a couple things about worship with song. First that in scripture they weren’t shy when it came to praising God. They expressed how they felt towards God in worship and God accepted it. Second I’m learning worship with song isn’t about you. It’s not meant to be your fill time or whatever else. It sure can be those as well, but when we praise God it should be all for Him and giving Him all we got. Whatever then you’re holding back for whatever reason in worship of Him, stop. He’s done so much for you He deserves all you have to give Him in praise. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 983
- God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. Psalm 47:5 – Here understand when they speak of God they are referring to the ark of the covenant that represented the presence of God with them. After the victory had been won, the ark would return back to its place. Something beautiful though is captured in this image of God returning back up to His place. As a commentary I read stated, “The ascent of God presupposes a previous decent.” In order for God to go back up He must have come down first, and that’s exactly what He did. God stepped into our story, fought our battle, paid our ransom, and found His seat once again on His throne. This is the reason we praise Him like this psalm speaks of. We have a God who was/is willing to come down into our mess and save us. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1764
