Psalm – Chapter 46

  • There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. Psalm 46:4-5 – Take note of the contrast in these verses compared to the first few in the psalm. Trouble was present, the earth was giving way, and the waters roared and foamed with power. Yet when the Lord arrives the picture completely changed. Instead of trouble, relief was being found like when the sun finally rises after a long night. Instead of a raging sea, there is a providing river that is making the whole city of God blessed. How did all this change happen? Because the Lord stepped into the midst of the situation. Know however difficult the situation you are navigating in life is, such change can be found by walking with the Lord. He can take the raging difficulties and the earth-crumbling news, step into all of it with you, and be a source of gladness and provision. God is your help and He is your refuge. He is the river of blessing and He is victor over every enemy of His people. Maybe though all this is things you’ve heard before but never fully experienced yourself. If so, find time today to dwell deeply on the words of this psalm and even bring up your desire to the Lord for this to be true in your life. For the words of this psalm are true, and the Lord wants to be the river of blessing to your story. Finding this out for yourself begins with believing such words are true and depending on Him in the earth-crumbling days. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3001

  • God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalms 46:1 – Another way to translate this is to say a “well proved” help in trouble. Either way what a verse this is we have to hold onto. That we have a God who’s not far off from us when we are struggling but is very close and aware of what’s happening. We also have a God who has proven Himself time after time that when trouble arises He is able to always provide and rescue. This is the God we praise when we sing. This is the God you can ask to be your Lord. We truly are blessed to have a God like ours within our story. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 982
  • Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah Psalm 46:2-3 – A helpful Bible study hint is when we you see a “therefore” ask what is the therefore there for. It’s says we won’t fear even when the earth gives way and the mountains begin to tremble. Things that seem pretty fear instilling won’t birth fear within us. Why is that though? Because of what the verse before our passage says. It’s says God is close and a well proven help in our time of need…therefore…we don’t need to fear. Panic, worry, fear, and anxiety don’t have to be places we run to anymore when our life begins to shake. We can run to the refuge God provides and find the safety and rest we need when life begins to become uncertain. Since God is so present for us, let us therefore make it our habit of running to Him when life pushes us to move. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1763
