- Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. Psalm 43:3-4 – This psalm is an extension of the previous psalm, likely written at a later date to add onto the depths of difficulty found in Psalm 42. Here the psalmist is pleading with the Lord and then sharing what He’ll do once God provides. He asks for God’s light and truth to be sent to him. He needed God’s light to cast out the darkness surrounding him and for God’s truth to establish solid ground for him to stand and walk on. He declared that he needed those two things and he was willing to submit to God’s leadership in his life. He desired to be led to God’s dwelling place once again and be close with the Lord. When that all took place, the psalmist even told the Lord that his response would be praise, sacrifice, and worship. Like the psalmist, we too can find ourselves asking for the Lord to get us out of our pit, but are we also declaring the other things the psalmist says in this passage? That we want out of the pit so we can be near the Lord? That our plan is to praise, sacrifice, and worship the Lord in and after the pit? Or are we simply tired of this pit and want out only to return to the things that aren’t pleasing to the Lord? If our “after-pit-plans” aren’t leading us to the Lord, then we may be left in the pit till our plans include such things. God desires us to follow Jesus, the Light and the Truth, and allow Him to bring us to holy communion with the Father. Let your after-pit-plans include following after Jesus. - Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Psalms 43:3 – It’s beautiful to me that in David’s plea for help he asks for light and truth to show him the way into God’s dwelling place. Why is it so beautiful? Because look at what our mission is today. We, who have been called by Jesus the light of the world, are carrying the truth of God’s love to a world who needs to know the direction to God. God answered David’s prayer, He answered our plea for help, now He’s using us to answer the prayers of others. Even helping those who don’t even know what it means to pray yet. God is so good. Letting those who have been given light and truth freely give both to all who need it. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 979
- Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. Psalm 43:5 – Maybe you noticed it, but today’s passage is identical to yesterday’s. The psalmist in another psalm writes about his soul being downcast and he again chose to tell it to hope in God. What this tells us is that we most likely won’t find ourselves in just one season of life where we have to tell our soul to hope in God. We may find ourselves over and over again in times of difficulty where our heart is discouraged and we will have to over and over again tell ourselves to rest in the hope Jesus brings. Daily we will have to tell ourselves to hope in Jesus. Don’t let your heart be troubled then if today you woke up feeling discouraged once again. God is inviting us to approach Him each day, it’s then our choice to tell our soul to hope in Him each day. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1760
