- How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. Psalm 36:7-8 – Spurgeon shared a story connecting to this psalm…Once a father brought his family into their brand new, much larger home for the first time. His son ran through the house exclaiming in joy, “Is this ours father? And is this ours?” Never once did the son ask, “Is this yours father?” The son found joy in knowing that what the father had was his, and the father found great joy in seeing his son share in what was his. As believers, we too are children of God. One day we’ll be able to enjoy the fullness of God in Heaven, but even on this earth in this life God’s blessing and abundance is present. God’s steadfast love is present with us today. The refuge God provides is available for us today. The feast of God’s blessing and the river of delight is available today for us to partake in. What we see though in this psalm is the contrast between the wicked and the holy. Those still consuming and embracing sinfulness will never taste the goodness of the Lord’s house, but those who set aside their sin find the fullness of God’s blessing. What the Father has is shared with His children. All love, joy, goodness, and mercy is shared with His children. One day we’ll be able to run through the halls of Heaven exclaiming, “Is this ours Father,” but know even today we can walk the halls of this life sharing in God’s abundance when we follow Him. - For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. Psalms 36:9 – Found a verse today that’s going to be a new favorite. When it speaks of the light at the end of the verse, understand it this way. As we dwell in the light, in the presence of God, we will begin seeing more of all that His light brings such as love, peace, and joy. As we make it our habit to spend time with God we’ll see more of the things of God in our life. We’ll see a peace that passes all understanding. We’ll feel the beauty of unconditional love more. We’ll taste more of the freedom from the ties to the sins we’ve wanted gone for so long. This and more is a part of the light of God. Seek then deeper, more purposeful time with God. As you find yourself deeper in the light, you’ll see more of whats in the light. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 972
- For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. Psalm 36:2 – As deeply as we often wish it to be, our sin isn’t hidden. Here the passage speaks of someone who puffs themselves up so much in their own eyes, in the eyes of others, and even with God. All for the point of blinding themselves and others to the sin that remains in their story. What they are thinking is if all I do is look at my good then the bad can remain hidden from sight. If I don’t see it then I don’t have to address it. Let’s challenge that mindset. Have you ever taken care of a two year old? Sure, if you don’t see them they can’t be getting into any trouble right? How about cancer? If I don’t acknowledge it then it’s not going to do any harm. Sin is a cancer to our life. Do not be deceived into thinking if we highlight our good and blind ourselves and others to our sin, that we can remain moving forward well. Open your eyes to your own sin, place the spotlight on it, and seek the help of Jesus to remove its hold from your story. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1753
