Psalm – Chapter 34

  • I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1 – While many of the psalms don’t have any sort of description about the psalm, when they do be sure to take note of them for it helps in understanding the fullness of the message. The description for this psalm is that David wrote this thinking back about the time when he was on the run from Saul and sought refuge with the Philistines. He though didn’t find the help he was looking for and had to act like a madman to escape the city. We see after this scene, David finds himself in a cave and God begins to bring supporters around him to fight with him. What then were the words of David after being saved by the Lord and being surrounded by support? “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” This certainly is the proper posture to take after being rescued and supported by the Lord, but it does take a choice on our part to bless and praise continually. For while the situations the Lord saves us from are intense and seemingly going to be our end, we can quickly forget the struggle we were in and forget to keep praising the Lord. Like David, let’s make that choice to keep blessing and keep praising. Let’s not forget the depths of rescue we’ve been given. Let’s keep the praise of the Lord for what He’s done continually on our mind and in our mouth. If it wasn’t for the Lord, we’d still be trapped in sin, slaves to the devil, with Hell as our eternal home. That though isn’t our story because of Jesus, and that’s something to be forever praising the Lord for. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2989

  • The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalms 34:18 –  I’m not sure who needs to hear this psalm today, but I felt as I read it this is the one that needed to be shared. Today, if you find yourself brokenhearted or crushed in spirit, I hope you find the encouragement you need here. God is near and He’s here to save you. I don’t know what has caused your heartbreak or what’s crushing your spirit, but I know that God sees you, is with you, and He’s got you. I’m praying for you today. • Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. Psalm 34:14 – Try to picture someone physically taking these actions. They are walking in one direction, they stop, they turn around, they search for something different, then when they find it they chase after it. That should be our story with evil and peace. In our relationships with others and God evil is what we are walking toward until we turn and pursue peace. So in what relationships currently are you not pursuing peace in? Primarily is peace something you’re pursuing in your walk with God? Has Jesus first forgiven your sins? Is His message of loving justice and walking humbly with your God your path? Is loving God and loving people your heartbeat? However your walk may be pursuing evil, turn from it. Pursue, chase after, peace. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1751
