- Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. Psalm 29:2 – This morning I had the blessing of studying Hebrews 3 with our deacons at church. In the chapter we see Jesus lifted to a very high place of honor. That Jesus was to be thought of as higher than even Moses. For the initial readers of Hebrews that would have been a grand statement to write and accept. For Moses was thought to be the greatest man ever to have existed, and even by some Rabbis to be greater than the angels. Now we are told to take this most highly elevated man and put him in second place to Jesus? Absolutely. As we read through Psalm 29 we are flooded with verses that lift high the Lord above any earthly or heavenly thing. We are to ascribe, which means to give credit, to the Lord the glory worthy of His name. This means we are to lift Jesus higher than Moses and higher than anything in creation. He deserves the endless worship and glory of all of creation. Let’s then take a moment to evaluate how much worship our life really is giving the Lord daily. Have we allowed something else in our life to be of more value than the Lord to us? How often are we giving God the glory for things within our life? Our life is to be about worshiping the Lord and helping the world know of His holiness. Even if it’s a small step today, seek to take a step to making your day more about that focus. - The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. Psalms29:3 – My wife has been listening to that new Avril Lavigne song “Head Above Water” often as of here lately. When I read this passage today I got an even better understanding of why we can call out to God in the middle of our drowning and ask Him to keep us above the water. It’s because He is over the water. He’s not caught up in the chaos distracted and overwhelmed like we are. He over all that and inviting us to walk on the water with Him like with Peter in the storm. So remember the chaos that is overwhelming you today isn’t overwhelming God. He’s over it and sees past it. Trust His lead and lean on Him for help in the water. - The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon. Psalm 29:5 – Think of what is an example of power in our world today. Things like beams of solid iron, lifeproof phone cases, or the arms of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. These things and others represent to us strength and the ability to withstand even the worst of opposition. That’s what the cedars of Lebanon were for the people of the day this psalm was written. These trees were the strongest and used for projects that needed true strength. Yet the voice of God breaks the cedars. His voice alone is more powerful than any example of strength our world can muster up. So when the enemy comes at you with some serious strength and power, know God can easily take care of them. You are safe with God. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1746
