- I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:13-14 – As you read though this psalm, likely you noticed a change in its nature halfway through. It began with confidence and praise, declaring the wonders of being near the Lord. Then in verse seven we see the reality of the difficult season David must have been in come through for his words become words of request for help from the Lord. What we find though at the end is where David was choosing to camp his heart at during his time of trouble. He knew one day he would be beyond this troubled time. He believed with confidence that one day he would look upon the goodness of God in the land of the living. This could simply refer to a time beyond the current trial, or it could be David referring to Heaven. Either way David believed the day where he was past the trouble he was in would come because the of the Lord. He just needed to wait, to stay strong, and to take courage. Maybe such a verse needs to be a reminder for you today in the current difficulty you’re in. Someday you too will look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. You will be beyond this one day. While the hope is always that this “day” we’re talking about comes sometime in this life, we can confidently know that we’ll see this day in Heaven. So, I’ll say to you the word no one likes to hear when they are in a season of difficulty…wait. Be strong, let your heart take courage knowing the Lord is with you, but wait for the Lord. The day of seeing Him in all His goodness beyond all this is coming. For now, know the Lord is with you and His goodness is with you no matter what season of life you find yourself in. - One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. Psalms 27:4 – Their is one thing I ask from God and one thing I am seeking after. I want to be with and follow Him. This is the attitude we all should pursue in our walk with God. A single minded, wholehearted, undivided devotion to God. So let’s ask ourselves how much of our prayer life has been asking things like the psalmist? Asking God what His will is, His direction, how He wants me to handle this, how can we get closer to Him today? It’s so easy to let our life be devoted to so many other things other than our life with God, today let’s make sure that doesn’t happen. It’s all about Him today…single-minded, wholehearted, undivided devotion to God. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 786
- You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.” Psalms 27:8 – For this next year, I see for all of us an area we can grow in within this passage. David hears from God and quickly replies I’m following your command. How quickly do we respond to God’s command with obedience? When God says to love your neighbor, how long do you choose to hold a grudge over them till you begin to love them? God says to be His witness, do you just wait till Sunday to take on that role? As I stated earlier, I think this area of responding quicker with obedience to God’s commands is something each of us can grow in. Challenge yourself this next year to be in places where you will hear God’s direction being given more (in the Word, in church, in prayer) then make the determination that wherever He leads you’ll go. This could be a very different way of handling your Christian life, but this is the adventure of following Jesus that we’re called to. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 400
- For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in. Psalm 27:10 – Jesus isn’t like anyone else we have within our story. Jesus won’t forget about you even though others may. Jesus won’t change his love for you even though others might. Jesus won’t forsake you even though some of the most precious people to us may. Jesus is different. We must remember that when we step into a relationship with Him. He isn’t going to treat you like the people who’ve hurt you treated you. He isn’t leaving and He isn’t going to abuse us because He is different than all others. Pour into scripture then to understand better who this Jesus is that you’re walking with. Rather than assuming He’s like the people you’ve existed with in your past, read the love letter He gave you describing His intentions for you.
