Psalm – Chapter 24

  • Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! Psalm 24:8 – The King is here. Imagine that being the words you heard from a family member as you are relaxing in your living room. The doorbell rang, they checked the door, and who’s at the door waiting to come in? The King. The King is wanting to come in, the King who is over all things, the King who all worship of the world is given to…is standing at your door. What would you do? The image given here in this psalm is the King of Glory, Jesus, is ascending into Heaven, and the gates of Heaven are being lifted so the King may enter into His glory. We then are left seeing such wonders and then wondering ourselves who could ever find themselves in glory with the King. For we know what’s in our life. Going back to the earlier example, we likely would be horrified to have the King suddenly show up for the house isn’t clean, stuff is everywhere, dishes are out, and pet hair is on all the chairs. How could we ever welcome the King into our house and be where the King is at? Only when the King cleans for us. Take a moment to reflect on this idea, Jesus, the King of Glory on the throne of Heaven, is willing to step into our dirty house to clean it up perfectly so we can existence with Him in glory. Without Jesus we could never have the clean hands and pure heart needed to be in His presence, but when His righteousness covers our sin, we find the doors of glory opened to us as well. Oh how great the love of Jesus is for us! That not only would He offer salvation to us, but that He would bear all our sins so we could be blameless before the Father. • Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Psalms24:7 – There is a message here for both the people this was shared with back then and for us today. Back then, they were being called to lift the gates and lift the doors. But for what? For the ark of God to come in to the newly built temple. This verse is saying make way and open what needs to be opened so that the ark of the Lord can come and remain permanently within the temple. For us, the message is quite similar. God is seeking a permanent home within your life. He’s telling you to open your heart and open your life so that He can come in and make residence in your story permanently. So what “doors” in your life are you keeping shut that’s keeping God from coming in? What “doors” are you keeping shut that is keeping God’s power from moving through you? Whether it’s lack of trust, a grudge against God, a sinful habit, or even just apathy towards God’s mission, what doors have you been keeping shut that has been keeping God from coming and and beginning to work though you? • Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Psalms 24:3-5 – This means we are able to stand before God in His holy place. Somehow we can actually stand free before a perfect God and not crumble because of fear, guilt, and shame. How can we stand like that? Because of the righteousness we can find through Jesus. When we have been forgiven and cleaned by Jesus, we are free from all our mess ups and can actually come before God without fear. If this is true, then why do we often feel so fearful about coming before God with what we are dealing with? Remember that because of Jesus, those and who trust in Him have full access to God and can come to Him with anything anytime. You have access to the King of Glory as this psalm reminds us. Take hold of what’s been freely given to you. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 783
  • He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah Psalm 24:5-6 – Such is the generation. I love how this promised blessing isn’t for only a select few or only the super elite, but it’s being given to an entire generation. Meaning all who choose to seek God find Him and all the blessing that comes from Him. Today know you are a part of the generation that is welcomed to seek Him. You are invited to lean deeply into Him and He longs to overflow you with blessing. Seek the Lord with all you have and find a life that is flooded with all He gives.
