Psalm – Chapter 20

  • Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. Psalm 20:6 – Psalm 20 has a uniqueness to it from many of the other psalms for it was written mostly from the viewpoint of a congregation speaking as one person. The verses speak as if the people of Isreal are praying on behalf of the king to the Lord, praying for his blessing and protection. Then verse six comes in, and David boldly says I know now that the Lord is going to save his anointed. After hearing the prayers of the people on his behalf, David knew he would find the Lord’s salvation in his story. See here the power of prayer. It gave the king the boldness and confidence to ride into battle for he knew the Lord heard the prayers of his people. We too when we pray can instill in others that boldness and confidence to step into whatever the Lord is calling them to do. When a missionary knows they have churches back home daily praying for them, if fuels their boldness. When a child knows their parents are praying for them daily, it offers a peace for them throughout their day. When a preacher knows his church is praying for him, it gives him the very confidence to stand and speak another week. Let us then start praying more for those around us and over us. Pray for your boss, pray for your president, pray for your parents, pray for your kids, pray for your employees, pray for your church, and pray for your pastor. If the God of creation hears and answers prayers, and we are free to come before His throne anytime with any request, wouldn’t it be foolish to waste our time not coming to Him with our requests? • May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions! Psalms 20:5 – The word “your” in the passage is what made this stand out. Your salvation and and all your petitions. How often do you shout for joy when someone else gets their prayers answered and you’re still waiting on your answer? While it’s the attitude we should have, it’s a discipline to see life like that. Where we can find joy when we see someone else have their requests fulfilled is that it is a sign to us that God still sees us and still is working. If He saw them and worked mightily for them, He is doing the same for us. So let’s begin seeing the blessing of others a little different. Rather than sinking deeper into a slump because you don’t see change happening in your story, let their blessing be a sign to you that the God you serve is still alive and strong and working and hasn’t forgotten about those who serve Him. • May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion! Psalm 20:1-2 – Do we care about the needs of others like this? Listen to the way the psalmist writes. Here the congregation is praying on behalf of David as he comes before God to seek direction before a battle. Everything isn’t about their needs or their wants or their cries to God. They are concerned about David and his needs. May the Lord answer you, may the Lord send you help, may the Lord fulfill your plans. There is nothing wrong with bringing to God our needs, in fact God directs us to do so. Let though your heart care deeply about the needs of others and let your prayer life include those needs as well. Pray that God will answer quickly the needs of those around you. Pray that their blessings will come swiftly and that they find the encouragement in the Lord they need. Here is where our faith life takes a step forward, when it begins to include prayer for the health of others walk with Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1737
