- I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. Psalm 16:7 – We find David in this psalm in some season of difficulty that is not identified to us. Yet as we read this psalm, what we don’t find is a complaint from David about being placed in such a difficult season. In fact, what we see is a psalm of thanksgiving and praise being made to the Lord. David, while yes in a hard time, was choosing to rejoice in the Lord for the Lord was remaining a refuge for him in this storm of life, and the promises of God on David’s life were wonderful ones. We even see here in our verse the Lord giving counsel and directing David in the midst of this night of his struggle. Maybe that’s something you are longing for right now, direction during your difficult times of life. Questions like, “What do you want me to do, Lord?” and, “How much more do I have to take, God?” are ones that often arise when we are in difficult times. How then do we find counsel from the Lord in the hard times? We begin by finding counsel during the good times. When life isn’t crashing in, that’s when we begin. Start daily reading scripture, start a habit of praying throughout the day, connect in a small group of believers for community, and go to church are just a few ways to begin. Rather than just starting to do such things when life is crashing in and you are seeking a quick answer from the Lord, start such things now so when the world does crash, you already have the pathways to the answers you are looking for established. When we cherish the counsel of the Lord in the good seasons, we find such counsel more quickly when the night closes in. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2971
- The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. Psalms 16:6 – Think of these lines like property lines. Where God has chosen the land, meaning the life, He wants you to settle in and has marked off your land with property lines. The psalmist is saying those property lines fell in good places for him and what’s inside of the land God gave to him was good and will be good for him in his future. God has set your property lines as well. He’s given to you your life and set the property lines up of your blessings. And it’s good. Remember that God has blessed you with this amazing life and blessed you with amazing things in it to help you today and for tomorrow. While within those lines may be some difficulties God has been good to you. Let work on being more thankful for what’s been given to us. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 777
- I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Psalm 16:8 – Here scripture tells us the secret to having a steadiness in your life. It tells us how we can not be knocked off balance by every unexpected thing that comes our way and how to stay standing tall when the enemy attacks you hard. When we put God before us we can remain steady. Meaning when we step back from leading our life and let God take the lead we find a steadiness to our story. We find strength, peace, and protection that only comes when God is the lead to our life. So has your story been feel shaky lately? Spend some quality time today then putting God in front of you. In Him you’ll find a firm foundation to stand on. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1733
