- For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. Psalm 149:4 – God knew I needed to hear this verse today, maybe you do too. I needed this reminder that God actually takes pleasure in us. See maybe it was just the enemy working but all the ways I fail on my walk with God seemed to be in the spotlight. Like how I forget to pray or when in prayer I just run through the motions. How I get distracted so easily or take things for granted. How apathetic I can be sometimes toward the abundant harvest all around me and I’d rather choose to watch Netflix instead. When in other psalms we read things like why would God think of man like me, I feel that. Here though we see that God truly takes pleasure in us, despite all that. Know God take takes pleasure in you. Yes your story may be filled with mess ups, but God still loves you, wants you, and takes pleasure in you. Try to believe that today. - Let the high praises of God be in their throats and two-edged swords in their hands,7 to execute vengeance on the nations and punishments on the peoples… Psalm 149:6-7 – What was God’s command for the people of the day when this psalm was written? To give God deep praise with their voices and to execute Godly vengeance on the nations that were coming against God’s people. They were in seasons of attack from physical enemies and the command of the Lord then was to lift up their sword and fight. Today, we must understand how our situation is similar and how our situation is different than this. Similar: We too are to lift our voices in praise to the Lord and we too are to lift up our swords against the enemy of God’s people. Difference: According to scripture within the New Testament, our enemy isn’t flesh and blood like the people of the psalm, but the evils in the spiritual ream. And the sword we need to be wielding is the sword of the Spirit which is the word of the Lord. So yes, hold tight your blade against the enemy, but the enemy is not your annoying coworker! Satan and his forces are at play in our world, seeking to destroy the people of God and seeking to keep those who don’t know the message of Jesus blind and deaf to the gospel. So refuse to be silent with your voice and refuse to be indifferent towards the attacks of our enemy. Our mission today includes a fight, and while it looks different than the sort of fight we see portrayed in this psalm, it’s no less serious and no less dangerous. Stay steady with your time in the word so you can use it in the fight well. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2280
