- Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. Psalm 144:1-2 – I love how this verse gives us more than just one way God helps us in our battles. First we see that God trains our hands for war. He shows us how to fight our battles well and how to come through them victorious. Yet He also remains a place for us to find refuge in when the battle is too big for us to handle. He is our shield to cover us from the attacks too large for us. What we see in this passage is God cares about us in our battles and how we come through them. He wants us to find our place safely on the other side, victorious in every battle, and is willingly offering His hand to see that happen. Know then you aren’t alone in your battles. God is an ever-present shelter for you and His Word gives us directions on how to battle sin and our enemy well. Take hold of the help He is giving, there’s no reason we should go into these battles alone when we have such help being offered to us. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1508
- Blessed are the people to whom such blessings fall! Blessed are the people whose God is the Lord! Psalm 144:15 – Sometimes when I’m unsure of what to say in my prayers to the Lord, I begin saying to the Lord that I acknowledge that He is God. That He is the God who created all things. That He is the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. That He is the God who caused the grand miracles to take place in the Old Testament like the red sea parting. He is the God of David and the God we read about in the psalms. He is the God who saved the world through death on a cross and a resurrection. Saying such things helps bring in perspective a couple things for me when I’m struggling to pray. First it reminds me who I’m talking to, and secondly, it reminds me that the God I proclaim as my God is the powerful God I see outlined in scripture. So yes, blessed are those who are the people of God and proclaim the God of scripture to be their Lord. Blessed where those who came before us and blessed are we today who follow the Lord. The God we pray to today is the same God of Adam, Noah, Moses, Abraham, David, Jeremiah, Peter, James, John, and Paul. How we saw God blessing and taking care of them is the same way God can bless and take care of us. Those who follow Jesus are truly a blessed people for we have the eyes of the Lord upon our life and the resources of Heaven at His disposal to help. If then you follow Jesus, know today you truly are blessed. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2275
