Psalm – Chapter 142

  • When my spirit faints within me, you know my way! In the path where I walk they have hidden a trap for me. Psalm 142:3 – Imagine being in a maze of mirrors and you’re seeking to escape. Yet every time you take a step you run into another wall. Over and over and over you keep getting nowhere until you exhaust yourself and have nothing else to give. Then suddenly a helping hand steps in to guide you easily through the maze till you’re out of it. This is the image given here from the psalmist. He recounts the time when due to the overwhelming pressures and struggles of life he was fainting with exhaustion, not knowing which way to go. Then God leaned in with a helping hand to guide him through. God did what no one else would, all others were setting traps for him to stay in the maze. Does life sometimes feel like a maze of mirrors? Know God sees you in that maze and knows the way through. He also is willing to step into the maze with you to guide you through it and over the traps others may set for you. We have a good, good Father who deeply loves us and wants us to be free. • Look to the right and see: there is none who takes notice of me; no refuge remains to me; no one cares for my soul. I cry to you, O Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” Psalm 142:4-5 – An easy place to find ourselves in any struggle is where David found himself in verse 4. He was looking around and feeling as if there was no one who was noticing his pain and no one around to care for him in his time of need. What a sinking feeling to have when you are already brought so low by the circumstances of life. Possibly a feeling you have experienced before, or maybe even feeling currently as you read this devotion. What I encourage you to do then is lean deeper than ever into verse 5. While man may not have given David any help, notice, or place to find refuge, God gave him all that and more. David was able to find what he was searching for from the world in the Lord. He found help in the Lord. He found someone looking upon his pain in the Lord. He found refuge in the storm in the Lord. He found salvation in the Lord. So can you. Our world and enemy makes a lot of offers to those in need, but never fulfills its promises. You will listen and follow the smooth sounding words of our enemy, yet when the pain of life hits and you will reach your hand out for help from the one you’ve been following and no helping hands will be seen from them. Yet the Lord is still there and still able to save. Know you can always find the help you need in the Lord. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2273
