- I will not enter my house or get into my bed, I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob. Psalm 132:3-5 – This is what David said concerning the ark of the covenant. That he wouldn’t rest until he found a good, solid place for the ark to dwell. Yet how often do we take this much care to give the Lord a place in our day? Let’s settle to not rest until we’ve given God a dwelling spot within our day. Where at least at some point within our day we’ve spent time with Him in His Word or in prayer. Of course we should do both and more and more than just a tiny amount, but if your habit right now is God searching for a place to dwell with you in your day but finding none, then any small start is good. Where then will you give Him to dwell? What part of your day will you cut out so He can dwell with you and you with Him in it? Begin finding Him a spot in your day to dwell with you and see the difference having God in your day makes. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1496
- The Lord swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne… Psalm 132:11 – It brings me such joy when I read passages like this in the Old Testament. Here we have the psalmist recounting to God a promise that was made to David. That if David’s sons would continue to follow after God like David had done, there would never fail to sit someone from his line on the throne. For our psalmist this was a promise that had yet to be fully fulfilled and was choosing to trust in the Lord’s goodness and holiness to not go back on His word. Yet today, far ahead in the future, we sit reading these scriptures knowing just how good the Lord is and just how holy He is because we can see how He kept faithful to His word. Not only has God kept someone from David’s line on the throne, He purposed and brought the Savior of the world to come from David’s line and our Savior is seated on the throne for all eternity. Take passages like this, where we are able to see just how faithful God was to His word in the lives of those before us in scripture, close to heart. As faithful as He was to His word then He will remain faithful to His word now. If God came through then, He’ll come through for you now. If He saved then, He’ll save now. If He provided then, He is able to provide now. The God we read about in scripture is the same God we pray to each day, worship with our church family on Sundays, and walk with through our hardships. Take heart knowing we serve a God that has proven Himself trustworthy and capable of what He says He’ll do. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2263
