- If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. Psalm 130:3-4 – If God were to not have a way for us to find forgiveness of our iniquities, of our sin and wrongdoing, we couldn’t possibly have any hopes of remaining standing. Those wrongdoings would crush us while we try to stand before God. If God were to focus on our sin, we wouldn’t have any hope of life. Yet with God there is forgiveness. He doesn’t look at the sin in the life of someone who chooses Him, He sees the precious blood of Jesus that took care of the debt sin gave us instead. Meaning we can stand unburdened in God’s presence, welcomed and invited into all that He is. Not because of anything we did, but all because of what Jesus did. If then today you’re a follower of Jesus yet still crippled by the shame of your past/present mistakes, know God isn’t focused on your mistakes like you are. He’s sees the blood of Jesus and as a result sees you as holy and precious in His sight. Stand up then and move forward. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1358
- I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. Psalm 130:5-6 – There are a few different ways the watchmen could be understood. Possibly it was referring to the temple worker that served the night shift at the temple and was waiting for the sun to shine and the day to break to begin the daily temple activities. This example of the watchmen though is more thought to be all those who have been sitting in darkness for too long. They have been crying out to the Lord and pleading for His aid. They are in the abyss of darkness with seemingly no change, but they are waiting for the moment for light to break. The psalmist then is encouraging his listeners, and himself, to wait upon the Lord a little longer. For our hope can be placed in the Lord. For with the Lord comes steadfast love and redemption and a healing from all our sin. The Lord is worth waiting for. Your situation may right now feel much like the watchmen in our psalm. Enveloped in darkness, no light to be seen, and no change in that is seeming to be around the corner for you. My heart encourages you to take in deeply the message of these psalms. The Lord is a safe and sure location to place your hope in when you are surrounded by the darkness. He will come to you and His light will break through the darkness of your story. Be willing to wait upon the Lord. Trust that His timing is true and His light can handle any level of darkness you have found yourself in.
