- Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. Psalm 125:1 – How does hearing that hit you? That we who place our trust in the Lord won’t be moved. Like the mountains with which no earthly force can be picked up and moved so will those who trust in God not be moved. What else can give us that promise? That when we trust in it the struggles of life won’t knock our feet out from under us or push us back to where we just came from. Only God can fulfill that promise. So if you’re tired of moving backwards because guilt is overwhelming you again or tired of being swept away in worry again, begin placing your trust more heavily on the Lord. His promise is to keep those who trust in Him steady and unmoved. Lean into that promise to see the reality of it in your story. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1353
- For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out their hands to do wrong. Psalm 125:3 – This passage connects well with the passage we find in 1 Corinthians 10:13. “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” Our passage speaks of the struggle and even oppression the faithful followers of God were facing. The promise was that God would never allow the faithful to sit under the oppression too long. For if the struggles remained too long the faithful may turn away from the Lord rather than endure like He was calling them to. What we see here is that our God knows our limits. He knows what we can bear and He knows when to lift up the weight. He provides means of escape from temptation and hope that the weight isn’t forever. We don’t have to turn to other things for help, for while yes the weight we’re dealing with today is heavy, it’s something God knows we can bear and is promising it’s not forever. Of course though the question that arises with messages like this is, “Why would God ever put such weight on His faithful followers to begin with?” Without going too deep, know a couple reasons are redirection and growth. Sometimes the struggle will course correct our life in the direction God truly wants us down and sometimes the weight is there to strengthen us for future callings God has for us. Whatever the weight is on your life right now know this…God is aware of it, God knows your strength, and God’s plan isn’t for that burden to be on your story for eternity. Yes, that may mean walking with this weight longer than you want or think you even can, but know God sees you and the weight and He’s not leaving you alone with it. Trust He knows what He’s doing even when we can’t understand. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2256
