Psalm – Chapter 124

  • …if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; then over us would have gone the raging waters. Psalm 124:2-5 – A perfect “if/then” example. If it was anyone or anything else that was on their side then their story would have ended much differently. They would have been swallowed alive and swept away. But, because it was God on their side, their story didn’t end that way. As we look at our story, if God isn’t for us then we too are going to be swallowed up by the enemy and swept away with the struggles that come in life. God though is on our side and we can expect a different ending to our story than that. One where we are protected and sheltered, just as with the people in our passage. Know God is for those who are for Him. He’ll provide the help you need in your story. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1352
  • Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:6-8 – “The snare is broken.” That short phrase in verse seven is what captured my heart this morning. Imagine enemies are coming and they have laid traps in our path. We find ourselves caught and tangled in the enemy’s traps and all looks as if we are about to meet our end. Yet, there in the moment of our deepest distress, that trap is broken as we are set free to escape. This is our story when it comes to death, sin, and our enemy. Sin and death had caught us in their trap and we were so entangled that there was no hope of escape on our own. The enemy’s hands were almost about to take us out, yet then Jesus broke the enemy’s snare. Jesus didn’t allow us to be found as the enemy’s prey but set us free so we could escape into the Father’s safe presence. If today you have placed your faith in Jesus know this is your story. Your snare is broken. You’re no longer caught in the trap of sin, you can walk freely out of that place. Don’t allow the enemy who can’t get his teeth around you deceive you into thinking you’re still in his snare. You’re not because you have been set free by Jesus.
