- He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. (v.3-4) God doesn’t sleep. What does that mean for you? It means you will never catch God at a bad time. It means you never will find God unable to help you. It means God is always available to be your support whenever you need Him. It might be three in the afternoon or three in the morning; it doesn’t matter. It might be Sunday while worshipping or Thursday when you’re alone struggling, either way God is available to His followers. When we strive to understand this promise that God is offering us that He will not sleep on His watch over our lives, we can know that whenever, however, and for whatever God will always be ready and available for us. What a boost of confidence for those fearful to take a next step. What a reminder for those who are feeling the struggles of life. God won’t sleep on His watch over you, that means you can find rest in Him. – Daily DEVO 22
- Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. Psalm 120:6 – This psalm speaks of the exhaustion that is tied with being too long around those who seem to never want peace. Where agreement is never found and forgiveness is never given. Possibly even you have found yourself in situations, relationships, or even seasons of life where it sure seemed like no one sought out peace. You remember the draining factor of that time and how it impacted you. Let’s then be the ones who are always seeking peace. Maybe no one else is, but that shouldn’t mean we shouldn’t. Let’s be the ones in these lacking-of-peace situations actually searching out how to find peace in them. Be the one that forgives, welcomes back, listens, and cares when maybe no one else will. Never downplay what a person seeking out peace can do. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1348
- Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war! Psalm 120:5-7 – First some context, then application. Meshech and Kedar were some very rough, even barbarous, people groups. While the psalmist may not have been literally dwelling with them, he is finding himself in the midst of unfriendly, hateful people. While he is open to seeking peace and living peacefully, even just a word from his mouth causes them to want to go to war with him. Have we ever found ourselves in a similar situation. Where the people we were with were just not kind people. Nothing you could say was every right but caused friction each time your spoke. The thought of peace with you wasn’t even an option for them even though you were desiring it. We too can find ourselves dwelling with the “Meshech and Kedar.” People who just are not for us, for our God, or for peace. In those seasons please keep close to heart the statement the psalmist spoke in verse one. “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me.” While the people around you may not be seeking peace with you, God is. While the people around you may be hateful and hurtful, God is loving and kind with His followers. While the “Meshech and Kedar” may seem to be surrounding you know there is more with God than with them. Yes, we will find ourselves often in this life dwelling with people who have no heart for peace, but we are called by God to be peacemakers. Call on God, lean on God, and be ready to serve God even in the midst of those who don’t know God. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2251
