- I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart! Psalm 119:32 – God must first bring about a change in our heart before we can truly run in His ways. Unless God steps in, cleans up, strengthens, encourages, and unites our heart to His, it’s impossible for us to fully walk in His ways. We can’t show His love if our heart hasn’t first been filled with it. We can’t be a light if He hasn’t first become our light. So while yes the mission is to run in the way of God’s command to teach others about Him and share His love with them, we must first allow God to change our heart. So let Him today begin the enlarging of your heart. Pray, seek Him out in scripture, and ask Him to change your heart how it needs changing so you can serve Him well. - I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commandments. Psalm 119:131 – As you read over this psalm, you gather that scripture was something very close to the psalmist’s heart. It was something he meditated on day and night. He valued God’s word over even fine gold. As our verse today even shows he panted for God’s word like someone thirsty for water. This is an example of a healthy heart towards God’s word, but it’s an example that can seem far off from where we are at today. For some of us God’s word isn’t right now something we pant for like water. We can go days, even weeks, without opening God’s word and be good. If that matches where you’re at right now, let me just speak into that for a moment. Right now your story may appear just fine because you aren’t feeling that thirst for God’s word, but as a believer we need God’s word in our life constantly. It’s like a young lady I had in my youth group a long time ago who hated the taste of water and only drank mountain dew. She constantly said she felt fine and wasn’t even thinking about turning to water. Yet she found herself in the hospital at least three times due to severe dehydration. When our habit is not coming to God’s word daily, don’t be surprised when a thirst doesn’t appear. Please don’t take that though as a sign that you’re a special type of believer that just doesn’t need God’s word and can make it without it in your life. Your life is panting for the refreshment for God’s word and you’ll eventually see how deeply you needed God’s word steadily coming into your life when life begins to become shaky. Find yourself daily taking in God’s word like water. Other things can deceive us into thinking our thirst is quenched and we don’t need the refreshment of God’s word anymore, but our lives were created for Jesus and the only thing that can truly quench our thirst is His voice within our story.
