Psalm – Chapter 112

  • He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. His heart is steady; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his adversaries. Psalm 112:7-8 – Here we see scripture say that the one who delights in God’s commandments, the one who fears and follows the Lord, isn’t afraid of bad news and his heart is steady. So glad we don’t live in a season where bad news is everywhere right? On the contrary, we see it every time we scroll through social media, get on TV, and we even hear about it in hallway conversations at church. There’s really no getting away from it. God though in our psalm today shows us how we can remain steady and unafraid even when we are surrounded by bad news and the enemy. It’s to follow Him and keep His word. When our eyes remain on Him, sure we’ll hear the bad news of course, but our focus will stay on the hope, joy, and strength our God gives. While we are in this world we don’t have to react like the world. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1340
  • Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous. Psalm 112:4 – This psalm is a reminder to us of the blessing our daily faithfulness to God will be for us. It truly is a better life for us when we choose to live our life for God. In the verse above we see though a truth that’s found often in scripture, sometimes forgotten by believers, and sometimes even dismissed by some Bible teachers. That there still will be dark times for the faithful. Notice that scripture doesn’t say the upright will never taste darkness nor ever walk through it. It’s not saying the steadfast believer in God won’t see struggles in their family or health problems or loss ever. These sorts of things a realities for all people. What though the believers has promised is light beyond the darkness. We have the promise of God that He will walk us through the struggle and provide joy, peace, and purpose to the seasons we walk through. Take heart knowing today that as you follow the Lord struggle will still come but Jesus will never leave you alone in that struggle. He will be with you every step of the way and will bring good from it. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2243
