Psalm – Chapter 11

  • In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, “Flee like a bird to your mountain, for behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart…Psalm 11:1-2 – David here was getting some advice. People, who likely had good intentions of helping David, were telling David to get out of town fast. An enemy, likely King Saul, had his weapons loaded and aimed right at David. If David ever wanted to survive this he needed to run as fast as he could away from this horrible situation. While these people were trying to be helpful, we see David respond properly, “In the Lord I take refuge.” Yes David had an enemy and yes this enemy had David in his sights, but David also had God, so why would David fear? As we see later in the psalm, David reminds his “helpful” friends that the Lord is on His throne and He is able to rain down hot coals of punishment on these wicked enemies of his. David had nothing to fear for the Lord was with him, and nor do you need to fear if you have the Lord in your life. The advice you may be receiving is telling you to run, hide, and escape the attacks from the enemy. Yet if you have the Lord in your life, why listen to such advice for you have Jesus with you protecting you. Never fear the enemy when you have the Lord with you. He is a refuge, a strong tower, and a victorious warrior when it comes to His children. Praise the Lord we serve a God who is on the throne of Heaven and is able to save those who trust in Him. • If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? Psalms 11:3 – The foundations being spoke of are those we in society hope will prevail. Like moral values, honesty, and the law. The psalmist is having enemies tell him that when those thing get overrun by injustice and sin, that those who are righteous will have no where to run to. His response to those remarks is the one we need to remember. That even if evil prevails over those foundations we have a firmer foundation to stand on in God. This firmer foundation will never be overrun by evil and will always be a place for the righteous to seek help from. Know that even when evil seems to be getting the upper hand God will never be taken down by any scheme of our enemy. This is the amazing God we have an close relationship with.  I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 772
  • The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man. Psalm 11:4 – His eyes see. Our God is seated above every power there is on earth. He is far above every struggle, every kingdom, every person, every lie. He is able to see all things that take place on earth, through every lie and past every mountain. God doesn’t miss a thing. Which means for us who our followers of Him He is watching our lives and the way we live them out. Do we run to Him when struggles in life hit? Do we love violence like the wicked do? Are our deeds righteous? God, seated on His heavenly throne, sees all. What then is He seeing from you? Let your life be a beautiful view for Him. When He squints His eyelids to really look at your story, let what He sees be pleasing to His sight. What’s one thing then you can do today that would make your story all the more beautiful of a sight for Him? I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1728
