- My heart is steadfast, O God! I will sing and make melody with all my being! Psalm 108:1 – We’ve seen it before, where you have a children’s concert and during the solo portions most of the kids are shy and too nervous to sing in the mic. You barely hear them and can’t understand what they are saying. Yet among the young ones there is a kiddo who isn’t shy at all, boldly gets up to that mic, and sings at the top of their lungs! That’s the heart in which the psalmist is referring to. This heart that will sing with all his being. Today let’s be more like the bold kid when it comes to our worship of God. Not shy and timid where even if we do speak out it’s too quiet to understand or hear, but boldly with all our heart we should worship and praise Him today. Possibly that’s way out of your comfort zone, especially in front of people. That’s fine, then in your alone time with God be like the bold kid. Practice in small ways so you can be bold when it really matters. God deserves our entire being behind our worship of Him, let’s try to give that to Him today. - Oh grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man! Psalm 108:12 – Looking to the world for help is an empty pursuit. The help and rescue we truly need in life can only be found in the Lord. As I looked deeper into this passage this morning I came to realize that Psalm 60:6-12 and Psalm 108:7-13 are almost identical. And way back when I wrote my devotional over Psalm 60 I chose verse 11, “Oh, grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man!” God in His word is having us see repeatedly this truth that help and salvation can only be found in and through Him. Sure the world can offer temporary fixes that feels like rescue from our struggle, but when it comes down to the real healing we need and especially rescue from Hell, only through Jesus can we find that salvation. The Lord sees this as message worth repeating even in holy scripture. Is it a message we’re repeating in our own story or is it a message we need repeated back to us because we keep searching for help in all the wrong places? Know our help comes only from the Lord, the maker of Heaven and Earth. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2239
