Psalm – Chapter 1

  • The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Psalm 1:4  – As I sit writing this devotional our family is on vacation and I’ll looking out over the Gulf of Mexico. This is my first time ever seeing an ocean/gulf/beach/anything bigger than a lake in Kansas. As I listen to the waves crash, I’m reading Psalm 1 about when a man is following after the Lord He is planted like a tree by streams of water. He never runs dry for God never runs dry. As vast of an expanse of waters that is before my eyes is, it compares nothing to what the Lord can provide for His people. Yet the choice to refuse all that is here too. The wicked, those who reject the Lord, are like a tree seeking to be planted on the sidewalk path by the beach. So close to the never ending supply of water, but choose to root themselves in something that will never provide. They will dry up and fade away in the wind. Today God is inviting you to plant yourself deeply within Himself. Follow Him this new year, choose to make your life be about what God is about. When we make this choice to follow Jesus, there we will find the never ending refreshment of our soul. If you have never made that choice to follow Him, what a great time to so by starting off your new year with Jesus! Happy New Year! I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2956

  • He is like a tree planted by steams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. (v.3) Blessed is the man. We need to understand what blessed means first before we can truly understand what this whole psalm is talking about. Curious enough, the internet dictionary gave the definition as “one who lives with God.” I love that definition. So what do we learn from the passage about a blessed man, someone who lives with God? They are like a healthy, vibrant tree full of life. The fruit of their life is ripe for their benefit but also ripe for the benefit of others. They are constantly connected deeply to the source of energy and rest which allows them to never find themselves withered. They find success in their life because they are following the one who brings about prosperity. I believe God wants to give us a clearer picture of what a life lived out for Him actually looks like. It’s not some burden that is going to limit and weight us down. No, God is in the freeing and life business not the shackles and death one. A life lived with God is about health, for you and for those around you. It’s about purpose and direction. It’s about success and life. It’s about everything you’re looking for. God wants to bless you with what you’re looking for, and you’ll find yourself blessed when your life is with Him. – Daily DEVO 23
  • Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers…Psalms 1:1 – First off, Merry Christmas from Brandi and I to all of you! Today, as we read over this psalm, remember the only reason you and I can have the option to not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or have to deal with the punishment of our sin is because of the gift God gave us. Jesus came to earth born and laid in a manger but also He died on a cross your yours and mine sin so we can have life with God. Remember how much God loves you and how now through what Jesus did for us we can have a new life away from the way of the world. That’s a gift worth celebrating! • He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:3 – My wife Brandi has kinda became obsessed with plants. What’s crazy to me is how some of the plants remain flourishing outside despite the crazy weather. We go from 100+ degree weather to severe thunderstorms all in the same day yet they remain healthy. How? Because they are connected to the source of their provision. Brandi keeps watch over them and waters them when they need it. So it is with us and Jesus. We are like a tree planted near streams of water when we lean deeply into Him. His supply is constant and exactly what we need to keep flourishing even when life isn’t perfect. We can still bloom and still produce the fruits of joy, peace, and love when life isn’t great all because we have the constant provision of Jesus in our story.
