- Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them…Numbers 6:23 – These days the blessing within the following verses has grown in popularity due to it being in our worship songs. Yet as we read through the chapter we see it begins with the detailed outline of how one was perform a Nazirite vow. This was a very strict vow that was setting one apart for the Lord in the most holy way. People like Samson, John the Baptist, and Paul are notable characters in scripture who took such a vow. We read through this entire process of one who would set themselves apart for the Lord, then we see this blessing Aaron and the priests were to give out. Immediately one may think that this blessing then was only for those who took the Nazirite vow, only for those who were spiritually elite in all their actions. Yet notice who this blessing was for? The people of Israel. Not just the Nazirite, but the whole of the nation. Takeaway this truth that the Lord is certainly blessed by our grand commitments made to Him with the proper heart, but His blessings aren’t just for those who make such commitments. His blessing is for all His people. His love, His salvation, His joy, and all His blessings are for all His people. Whether you’re a pastor, international missionary, or simply a child who follows Jesus, all of God’s blessings are for you. God’s heart isn’t one to hold back from us because we are doing what other people are doing. If we are being faithful in the ways He has called us to be faithful, even if that’s not as glamorous to the world as some ways others are being faithful, know God is blessed and He blesses that faithfulness. - Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:23-26 – The song “The Blessing” by Elevation Worship finds its lyrics straight from this passage. God was directing Aaron to bless the people in the Lord and remind them God is turned towards them. Know then for you today God’s heart is to bless you and keep you. His face is turned toward you in love and grace. His plans are to lift you up and give you peace. Today, hear all that for your story today. Whatever shadows you are navigating through have no way to stand against the light coming from God’s face who is looking down on you deeply in love. May the blessing of the Lord be all over you today. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1422
- Numbers 6 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When either a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to the Lord… Numbers 6:1-2 – I can’t help but think about Samson as I read over this chapter. Not that long ago we covered the story of Samson at church. We saw how he was called to be a Nazirite not only for a season, but for his whole life. What we see then described in this chapter is how Samson’s whole life should have looked. Never drinking wine, never cutting his hair, and never touching anything dead. He was to be set apart for the Lord his whole life. Yet, as you read through his story, Samson was so far from the described life of a Nazirite. God gave clear directions of what He wanted His Nazirites’ life to look like, and Samson chose to not follow it. God has as well in scripture outlined clearly what sort of life a set-apart follower of His today should look like. One who priorities the mission of God over their own agendas. One that loves the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. One that seeks to love their neighbor as themselves. One that seeks to have the fruits of the Spirit residing deeply within them and pouring out deeply from them. These and so much more are given to us in scripture so we can know how we are to live as followers of Jesus. As we then examine what a follower of Jesus’ life should look like from scripture, can we truly say we are following Jesus? Let’s seek to make our lives so in line with what scripture says a follower of Jesus’ life should look like that there is no question or doubt in those around us of who we follow and who we serve.
