- When the camp is to set out, Aaron and his sons shall go in and take down the veil of the screen and cover the ark of the testimony with it. Numbers 4:5 – The Tabernacle was a moveable place of worship for the Israelites during their time in the wilderness and into the Promised Land. It was holy and within it was extremely holy things such as the ark of the Lord. Our chapter today breaks down the breaking down and moving of this extremely holy setup known as the Tabernacle. We see the Lord enlisted 8,580 men from the tribe of Levi for all sort of aspects of this process. Some to cover the ark, some to carry the Tabernacle covering, some to move the pillars that surrounded the Tabernacle. Every aspect of the process was thought out by the Lord and He made sure this could-be chaotic process was something clear and doable. This is the beauty of our God, He sees all the details and is able to make the work clear and doable for us. For the tribe of Levi, breaking down and transporting the holy Tabernacle was a massive ordeal, but God made it doable. For us, the great commission is a massive ordeal. We are to go into the entire world, meaning every single nation on the planet to every single person on the planet, and tell them the good news that Jesus is alive and we can find salvation through Him. Could any task be more massive and have more could-be chaotic aspects attached to it? What we see though is our God has made this impossible task doable and clear for us. He’s called certain people to certain parts and to certain places. He’s gifted us with the skills and talents for the work. He’s outlined clearly for us the message we are to share, and to top it off, He says He’ll be with us the entire way. Know God does call believers to difficult tasks, but He is not a God of confusion. He makes the path clear and walks with us the entire way. - …from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come to do the service of ministry and the service of bearing burdens in the tent of meeting, those listed were 8,580. Numbers 4:47-48 – God was outlining for His people how to handle moving the tent of meeting when they needed to move it. These 8,580 men were charged with that responsibility. Yet keep in mind what all this chapter says, they couldn’t look on any of the holy things or touch them directly. Moses or Aaron would have to first come in and cover the items and attached the poles in which to carry them with. Their job was to simply carry, but if they didn’t carry, the rest of the nation would not have had the tent of meeting with them when they got to their next location. Never downplay your responsibility. Maybe all you’re doing is carrying something that you can’t even look upon, but you faithfully doing what God calls you to allows others to worship Him more easily. So carry what you’ve been called to carry as God has called you to carry it. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1420
- Numbers 4 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO According to the commandment of the Lord through Moses they were listed, each one with his task of serving or carrying. Thus they were listed by him, as the Lord commanded Moses. Numbers 4:49 – God gave to Aaron the whole of the tribe of Levi to help him in accomplishing the work of the Lord that was tasked to him. This chapter breaks down the three sons of Levi and what aspects of the work of the Lord their families were called to take on. One family to carry the ark, another to take down the curtains, another to carry the frames of the tent, etc. What we see here is a set up where everything is taken care of, everyone has a place to serve, and no one gets burned out. Yet, what if one of the sons of Levi and his family decided the tasks given to him weren’t as special as some of the other ones and choose to slack on his tasks to start doing some of the more “glamourous” tasks that weren’t assigned to him? For starters…aspects of worship wouldn’t be able to happen now, tension and division between brothers would grow, and confusion would spread throughout the tribe and nation. The most serious issue though is that if they chose to behave this way they would be in disobedience to the Lord. Yes, they would still be doing the work of the Lord, but it wouldn’t be the work God called them to do. What then has God called you to do? What has He called your brother to do? Is there a discontent in your heart because the roles given to your brother are more glamourous than yours? Know every task given to us by God are ones that could give God glory if done faithfully. Yes, glory to you may not come, but God will be lifted high by our faithful service to Him, even when the tasks aren’t very glamourous. Serve how God has called you to serve and bring glory to His name with your work. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2285
