- And you shall say to them, This is the food offering that you shall offer to the Lord: two male lambs a year old without blemish, day by day, as a regular offering. Numbers 28:3 – In the church today we generally understand the idea of our offerings to God. Often though it ends with our weekly giving at church to help the ministries there. Yet in this chapter God reminds us that offerings to Him should take place in our life much more than that. Even in this verse it said to offer lambs daily. For us, we need to be offering to God daily our obedience and devotion. He needs to have daily our whole heart, not just on the weekends or special holidays. It’s easy to allow the offerings we give at church to deceive us into thinking we’ve given to God all He wants from us. What He wants most, even more so than the money we put in the offering plate, is our heart daily following His lead. Has that been something you offered Him yet today? - Numbers 28 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO On the Sabbath day, two male lambs a year old without blemish, and two tenths of an ephah of fine flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, and its drink offering: 10 this is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering. Numbers 28:9-10 – Here we have the Lord outlining for the people what sort of offering He is calling them to give to Him as they step into the land of promise. We read about daily offerings that were to be given, but as we continue, we start to see God directing them to give special offerings at certain times of the month and certain times of the year. Offerings above and beyond the normal, daily offerings. When we read these sort of passages in a book like Numbers, its not a surprise that God would be asking for these sort of offerings beyond just the daily offerings. We know that’s how God worked back then, they had all sorts of times where they needed to give beyond just the normal giving to the Lord. How often though do we get worked up when God asks us today to give beyond just the normal amount to Him? Like we have our daily time in prayer we give God, but He’s pushing us to give much more than that amount of time in prayer to discern His direction in this season. Or maybe its with our time of serving at church. We serve as ___ and also do ___ but God is now asking more of us to meet a need at the church. Just like with the Israelites, we have our daily offerings to God that He is calling us to give to Him. Its not in the shape of a lamb or an ephah of fine flour, but He is calling us to a daily devotional life to Him. There will though be times and seasons where God is going to require more from us. More time, more energy, more of our gifts being used for Him. Settle in your hearts now that whenever the Lord asks more of us, the answer will be yes. For when it was up to Him on how much to give of Himself for us, He chose to hold nothing back. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2309
