- And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, “Arise, O Lord, and let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you.” 36 And when it rested, he said, “Return, O Lord, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.” Numbers 10:35-36 – This would have been an exciting day for Israel, they were finally setting out to the Promised Land. For over a year it had been escape from Egypt and camp out by Mount Sinai to get the law, but that all changed in our chapter. The cloud lifted from above the tent of meeting which was the sign for the entire nation it was finally time to move. Our verse above shows the heart of Moses during these days. Whenever the cloud lifted and the ark of the Lord set out to follow wherever the cloud went, Moses’ desire was for the Lord to go before them and make clear the path of those who would be harmful to Israel and clear of those who hated the Lord. Then whenever the cloud stopped and the ark rested, Moses’ desire was that the Lord would return to be near the multitude of His people. How wonderful is it that the heart’s desire of Moses is what we have daily in Jesus. Scripture tells us that the Lord goes before us and is a mighty victor over our enemies. Scripture tells us that the Lord knows our getting up and our lying down, and He is with us always in both. There is never a need to ask the Lord to return, for He never left us. And there is no enemy we ever have to fear for the Lord has scattered them and defeated death and Satan already. Know in Christ you have what Moses dreamt of. God has defeated your enemy and God will never leave you. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3360
- And Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do good to you, for the Lord has promised good to Israel.” But he said to him, “I will not go. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.” Numbers 10:29-30 – God is moving in a certain direction, but Hobab says that’s not where he plans to go. What would cause you to possibly give that same answer? I think for many of us the answer we’d love to say is nothing. Nothing would cause us to not follow the path God is going down. Let’s just not be naive thinking that choice will always be easy. Like for the Israelites it may be as easy as picking up camp and moving it to the next location. Yet it may come with the struggle to leave your comfort and people to follow God’s path. So yes, seek to have that conviction to always follow God, just understand that choice will come in a variety of difficulties throughout your story. I pray today that choice is easy for you, if not though, know I’m praying for you in that too. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1426
- Numbers 10 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO And if you do go with us, whatever good the Lord will do to us, the same will we do to you. Numbers 10:32 – The cloud had lifted from the over the tabernacle and the nation of Israel was about to set out for the first time in their journey together in the wilderness. Before departing though, Moses speaks with his brother-in-law Hobab and invites him to come along for the journey. Moses shared with Hobab the goodness of God and the good promises God has made of protection and provision. Moses is following the Lord and he invited Hobab to do the same. Isn’t this how our talks with our friends and family should go too? Where we are first walking after God. We are aware of His goodness and His good promises to us, and we choose to follow God however He leads. On our journey, we then should invite those around us to come with us. Invite them to follow Jesus too and invite them into the promise of salvation that comes with following Jesus. For our promise land is Heaven and we have the assurance of blessing within this life too until we get there. If then we love those God has put in our life, we should invite them to follow Jesus too. For promise is available to them. Heaven is available to them. Forgiveness and salvation is available to them. Jesus is available to them. For Hobab and his family, they would have simply gone back to his old homeland and settled there, but because of an invite my Moses, they were able to taste and see the goodness of God. Let’s invite whoever we can to Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2291
