- Arise and go, for this is no place to rest, because of uncleanness that destroys with a grievous destruction. If a man should go about and utter wind and lies, saying, “I will preach to you of wine and strong drink,” he would be the preacher for this people! Micah 2:10-11 – Like many of the prophets, Micah had a hard ministry. It wasn’t till after around twenty years, and into the reign of the third King of Judah that Micah spoke to, that the people actually listened to his words. Instead the people and earlier kings listened to the words of false prophets telling them peace and rest was their future. Micah hints at the type of prophecies the other prophets told the people, prophecies of wine and strong drink flowing, ones of rest and no worry of enemies. Messages that said you don’t need to change your ways, the path you’re on is leading towards your enjoyment and blessing, keep on going as you are. Not surprisingly, the people chose to listen to those words over Micah’s words of repenting of their sin and following God. What should we do then in a world where God’s word is being set aside to listen to the messages being blasted loud in culture of “follow your heart,” “do what feels right to you,” “you don’t need to change, you are perfect exactly as you are?” We keep sharing the truth, that’s the only option we’ve been given by the Lord. We likely will run into opposition and we’ll likely not see the masses flock immediately to God’s word, but His words are true and the words that offer life. What is not going to help the world follow Jesus is the ones with the words of the Lord refusing to share it because it’s just too hard. The enemy is going to constantly preach his message, we need then to never rest in our proclaiming of God’s message. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3304
- I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob; I will gather the remnant of Israel; I will set them together like sheep in a fold, like a flock in its pasture, a noisy multitude of men. Micah 2:12 – God is about bringing His people together. We see that all over this verse. So the comments you’re tempted to make about someone, will it draw you closer to them or push them away? How about the choice your going to make, will it bring you closer or distance you from your church community? Here we are given a new filter for our words and actions. If something we say or do would actually cause division between us and our church community than likely that isn’t something God would lead you to do. If God is about togetherness of His people, why would He lead you to create division in it? I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 663
- Woe to those who devise wickedness and work evil on their beds! When the morning dawns, they perform it, because it is in the power of their hand. Micah 2:1 – Be wise on what you devise. Here God speaks of how His people are lying in bed dwelling on and devising all the ways they are going to act sinfully the next day. The morning comes and what to they do? The very things they devised the night before. When we say yes to allowing sinful thoughts to run their course in our mind it makes the saying yes to the sinful action just that much easier. Which is why we much we wise with what we devise. If what we find ourselves dwelling on, thinking about, devising plans for are things God said to avoid, don’t be shocked when you find yourself gravitating towards those things in ways you hadn’t before. Know though the same happens when we dwell on the things of God. We begin to gravitate more towards Jesus and His will for our story. Choose today what you’ll devise plans for. Your sinfulness of your faithfulness. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2094
