Luke – Chapter 24

And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” Luke 24:33-34 – He is risen! I love anytime I get to read and write about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and today we get that blessing together! What we find in this chapter is that even though Jesus foretold all this would take place, the disciples struggled to believe it. Even when the women followers of Jesus witnessed the empty tomb and told them the words angels spoke to them, many of the apostles refused to believe the truth that Jesus had risen from the dead. Yet here we have Jesus walking with a couple disciples on the road. He entered a home and ate dinner with them, yet until Jesus revealed Himself they didn’t know who He was. Yet when His identity was revealed to them and they saw Jesus for who He was, what did they do? They told the eleven what had happened. Yet see what they had to do. They were seven miles from Jerusalem, meaning they would have to run a 10k at night just to get this word to the eleven of what happened. What then are you willing to do to get the glorious message across that Jesus is alive? Would you run a 10k at night if it meant someone hearing that truth? Would you stay another year at your workplace to have more opportunities to share the Gospel? Would you leave your hometown so you could plant yourself somewhere else that has a greater gospel need? What would you be willing to do? We have the message that changes lives and it’s our turn to get after sharing that message. Let’s settle that we’d be willing to do whatever Jesus told us to do in order to get out the message that He is alive and He can save. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3553

You are witnesses of these things. Luke 24:48 – The disciples had the blessing of seeing everything that Jesus had done including His resurrection. Jesus commanded them to now go and share all that they had seen and experienced with everyone who would listen. We though have been witnesses to many mighty works of God as well. God has moved in your life or someone else’s life. You have seen scripture and how powerful it is. We have been witnesses of some amazing works of God. Now like the disciples it’s our turn to go and share what we have seen. Today, seek out an opportunity to share some of what you’ve seen God do with someone. Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, ⁴⁶and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,⁴⁷and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. ⁴⁸You are witnesses of these things. Luke 24:45-48 – As we wrap up the book of Luke today, Jesus Himself gives us the mission once again. He opens their eyes to scripture so that they can fully understand why everything they just saw Him go through had to happen. All this that He went through, and their being witness to it all, was to make a pathway for people to be able to repent of their sins and find forgiveness. Their role now was to start where they were at and begin the mission of the great commission. Today, we have finished reading the gospel of Luke. We have read the passages where we see Jesus heal the sick and give sight to the blind. We have read how Jesus has power of the storms and the enemy. We know the message of repentance and forgiveness of our sins. Now, because we have been witnesses to all this, it’s our time to share the good news. Beginning from where you are at today, begin the mission of the great commission. You have seen, heard, and felt God to be good, now it’s time to tell this to others. Does this mean you have to start knocking on doors of those in your city to have gospel conversations? You sure can do that, but there are far more ways to share the gospel. Use social media, send cards to people, invite someone to coffee or over for a game night. Find yourself in contact with people, then be intentional with that time with them.
