- The scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him at that very hour, for they perceived that he had told this parable against them, but they feared the people. Luke 20:19 – I bet we can all feel for Jesus here in this chapter. Here Jesus was simply teaching and preaching the Gospel so people could know life would be found through Him alone, yet He kept getting interruptions and interference. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes continually sought to trap Jesus in His words so they could openly accuse Him of false teaching. They even went so far to plant spies in His gatherings to find such falsehoods, but they never found any. Eventually their growing frustration with Jesus turned to hatred and they wanted to kill Him that very moment, but they didn’t. Why? They were afraid of the people. The people loved Jesus and they were afraid if they moved against Jesus the people would move against them. Yet see the sad state these leaders were in. Jesus, God in the flesh, the One who possesses all power, they didn’t fear, but people who had no real power in life they were terrified of. Sin causes us to get everything mixed up in this life, and fear is a piece that can get turned upside-down in our life because of sin. We can begin to fear all the things in our life that have no real power over us. People in our life, what’s to come in the future, the enemy and his forces. We though lose a fear of the Lord. God isn’t asking us to be terrified of Him, but when we rightfully remember who He is and the power He has, things get back aligned. He is the One our heart is humbled before and all the things we once feared no longer foster fear in us like they once did when placed next to God Almighty. - For they no longer dared to ask him any question. Luke 20:40 – Why would they be too scared to ask anymore questions? Because if you ask too many questions you may get an answer you didn’t want. An answer that challenges your way of life. An answer that even provokes you to change something about yourself. When it comes to God, don’t be afraid to ask questions. The answers may challenge you and lead you to change, but they’ll always lead you into a deeper knowledge of God and His plan for you. So never be afraid to ask a question about your faith. Learn everything you can about God and this faith of yours. He wants to be known by you, just be open to the answers you get. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac- Daily DEVO 625
- Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’ Luke 20:13 – While those hearing this parable didn’t grasp all that was being shared with them that day, we who know the story of Jesus do. The owner, God, has sent His Son, Jesus. That Jesus came to find the earth well-kept and ready for Him to take with Him His choice fruit. Instead He found rejection and death, just like the son in the parable. While none today alive were there at this first coming, understand Jesus is coming again. In previous chapters we see He is looking for a people ready for Him and serving Him like there is no tomorrow. Be found ready. Let’s be a people that is longing for the Son’s coming and is ready to welcome Him. What that looks like for us is to be found faithfully serving and pursuing Jesus today and every day. Praying, reading scripture, sharing the Gospel, loving your neighbor, serving with your gifts.
