- Whoever eats any blood, that person shall be cut off from his people. Leviticus 7:27 – In our chapter we see verses like this one we are looking at today a few times. Around 19 times in the law there is given the direction to “cut off” the person that sinned from the people of Israel. One such sin that would result in this would be eating the blood of an animal. Now let’s note that all this would be predicated that the individual did this knowingly and refused to make their wrong right. We see from previous chapters that God gave grace for people who sinned unknowingly and was willing to follow His ways of making atonement for their mistake. Yet what we see here is a harsh truth, God was willing to cut off people from His people if they didn’t choose to obey His ways. In a culture where refusing to embrace someone’s choices in life is seen as hatred of them, God stands firm in His posture towards sin. He is open armed to those willing to turn from sin and obey Him, but He also is willing to let someone spend an eternity in Hell if that is the choice they’d rather have. Is that a sign God isn’t loving? Absolutely not, the fact we have an option other than Hell is a wonderous demonstration of God’s love for us. See though God isn’t playing around with His words. If you want sin, that’s fine, but you will be cut off from Him and will never be able to enjoy the blessings of a life with Him. If though you instead want to follow Jesus, you will have everything God gives in abundance within your life. No, this isn’t an easy truth to share, especially with your loved ones that are choosing a different path than Jesus. Trust God has His purposes. - Leviticus 7 Daily DEVO This is the portion of Aaron and of his sons from the Lord ‘s food offerings, from the day they were presented to serve as priests of the Lord. Leviticus 7:35 – So those God set apart at holy priests are able to enjoy the table of God’s blessing. What we must remember now because of Jesus Christ and the salvation He bought for us we have been set apart as a royal priesthood. ‘But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession…1 Peter 2:9a.’ So when we read and hear about how those set apart for God as a holy priesthood get the share in the blessing of God know that includes you if you’ve been saved by Jesus. Remember who you are in Christ and remember that God takes care of His own. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 889
- With the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving he shall bring his offering with loaves of leavened bread. Leviticus 7:13 – I’m not sure if you noticed this, but when I read this verse it jumped out at me. Notice here God asks for leavened bread as a part of this offering. This is the opposite of any of the other directions given for the other offerings and in Leviticus 2:11 says no leaven shall be a part of any burn offerings. What’s different? Well the nature of this offering is different. This isn’t an guilt offering or a sin offering seeking out God’s mercy over a wrong. This is a peace offering. One where the giver is freely offering to God more than is required because of his gratitude for the peace he has found in God’s eyes and the wondrous blessings in his story. With this sacrifice the loaves are not placed on the altar so it’s not contradicting 2:11. This is God showing leaven in itself isn’t wrong, in fact leaven is a result of peace with God. For me the message today is things are different for those who have found peace with God. Our life is better. No, that doesn’t mean all our prayers get answered how we want and our bank accounts are busting at the seams. But what we do get is pretty amazing. We have a knowledge of what will happen when we die and we’re excited about it. We have a purpose to everyday we exist. We have help from One who is actually able to change things. We get to experience the purest forms of family, love, trust, peace, joy, and life. All because we have found peace with God. All because we believe in the sacrifice of Jesus. Meaning, you too can have all this if you want. Reach out if you’d love to hear more about how you can find peace with God. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac -Daily DEVO 1930
