- But I will for their sake remember the covenant with their forefathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the Lord. Leviticus 26:45 – Our chapter, while not the last one in the book, seems to wrap up God’s message to His people surrounding His laws. It’s a chapter of blessing and curse. Abundant blessing would come upon His people when they followed Him, the abundance of the blessing would be so great that the pagan world wouldn’t have been able to dismiss the greatest of God. Yet the curse for disobedience would also be so “abundant” that the pagan world would acknowledge only such devastation could come from God. What’s so beautiful is while this chapter spends more time outlining the havoc their choice of sin would bring them, see God’s posture if the people chose to repent. God said He would remember His promise and would bring them blessing again. Even after they rejected Him over and over and over, and turned hard against every way He sought to bring them back, even then God would look favorably on them if they repented. If this is how God handled His people prior to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, how much more abundant grace do you think we’ll receive now that Jesus has done His work? Our enemy loves to convince us that we’ve just gone too far for God to forgive, yet even a passage deep in Leviticus shows us the truth about our God. Our God gives more grace. No matter how far we’ve gone in the opposite direction, if we truly repent God truly forgives. His love is greater than our mistakes and Jesus’ sacrifice covers every sin. Own this truth within your life and let it be a truth you are declaring to the world around you. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3228
- Leviticus 26 Daily DEVO But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers in their treachery that they committed against me, and also in walking contrary to me, so that I walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies—if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and they make amends for their iniquity, then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. Leviticus 26:40 – For those who believe God is only here to punish us and is waiting for those opportunities, this chapter shows otherwise. When speaking about disobedience many times in this chapter God says what’s He’ll do as punishment for it. Yet here we see why God is punishing. God wants us to turn from our sin. The punishment is to teach us that sin isn’t worth it and if we turn away from sin God is ready to have us back. We must remember that while the ways God spoke about getting their attention seems harsh, it’s harshness is nothing compared to a life in Hell if we never turn to God. Know all God wants for you is life with Him which is life as from the pains of Hell as you can get. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 908
- And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people. Leviticus 26:12 – Our chapter today centers around a couple If/Then statements. The first was if you follow my ways, then I will bless you. And the ways God says He would bless them would have been everything they could have dreamed for. Rain for those crops, overflow of harvest, food on the table, and security in their lands. While all that is beautiful, this last promised blessing should have stopped them in their tracks. God said He’d walk among them. The Hebrew word for walk used here is “Halak,” the same Hebrew word used in Genesis 3:8 when God walked in the garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. He was saying when you follow me, I’m taking you back to the beauty of Eden where we walked together. Today know this promise still stands for us. When we choose to be faithful to the relationship we have with God, we begin walking with God. We can enter into the beauty of Eden. Follow Him faithfully today and enjoy the beauty of what life looks like in step with Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1949
