Joshua – Chapter 14

  • The people of Israel did as the Lord commanded Moses; they allotted the land. Joshua 14:5 – Isn’t it easy to do as the Lord commands when it clearly benefits you? See the Israelites followed God at this time but the command they were given was to give land out to people. It would be like for you God commanding you to take $1000 dollars. You’d have no problem being faithful to follow God then right? I wouldn’t blame you, I’d be right there with you! The struggle comes when the command isn’t so clearly a blessing for us. What if it were to give $1000 dollars away instead? See suddenly it isn’t as easy to follow God anymore. What we must remember in our life of following God is there will be times of receiving yet also times of letting go. God though promises to work all things for our good so don’t take the letting go parts as a punishment. Sometimes the biggest blessing comes when we pour out what we have. Trust that God in whichever stage you’re in, receiving or giving, loves you and is for you. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac
  • Joshua 14 Daily DEVO But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God. Joshua 14:8 – Which will be said of you when it comes to the people that surround you? Will the influence you have on them be one that just echos their fears and worries, not helping them step into the promise that God gave them? Or will your faithful pursuit of Jesus be something for them to observe and learn from on how their life could possibly be lived out? We must accept the truth that our being in someone else’s story is going to do one of two things; help their walk with God or not. My encouragement for you today is to dwell on how you can be more of a help to those around you in their walk yet also be thinking about how possibly parts of your life could be not helping. Accept the truth you play a role in other’s walk with God. Make it a positive one. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1178
  • Joshua 14 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO The people of Israel did as the Lord commanded Moses; they allotted the land. Joshua 14:5 –  As I read over this chapter this morning, I also read a note that I had written in my Bible next to the verse and it went as follows…It’s easy to follow God when you’re receiving, but will you follow His lead when things are being taken away? For in our passage today the “doing as the Lord commanded” was dividing up and giving out land. Imagine God commanding you to accept a million dollars, the struggle to follow God’s command in that wouldn’t be too hard, and that’s what’s happening here with Israel. Yet, as we well know, following God isn’t always “being commanded to take a million dollars.” Sometimes the command is to let go or to leave. Sometimes we are called to step away from a job we love or even let a relationship end. We can even find ourselves having something we love taken from us without us even getting a chance to voice our opinion on the matter. In our following of God there will be times of receiving greatly and times of giving great things away. Are we willing to praise him and follow Him and serve Him in both times? While that’s a question that can only be answered fully when a time of giving away is taking place, we can still choose today to follow Him regardless of the season we are in. Know whether the season is one of blessing or loss, God is worth our following. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2473
