- Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?” John 4:10-11 – God doesn’t hold back what He is offering to us if we don’t fully understand it. Here clearly the woman was completely lost when Jesus spoke to her of living water, yet that didn’t hold Him back from showing her compassion and offering her forgiveness. Maybe today it’s still a struggle for you to grasp how God could love someone who’s messed up or why He’d want to use someone like them. Especially when those people are us. Yet, just because we don’t fully get it, God still offers us love and offers us an opportunity to follow Him. We may not get His compassion, patience, love, and care, but we still get it. - Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word. They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.” John 4:39-42 – Each step of the way people believed in Jesus, but look at the steps of the passage in reverse. It’s ends with them believing because they found extended time in Jesus’ presence listening to His own words being spoken to them. Before that though people believed because one lady shared her one experience with Jesus with everyone she could. We see many people placing their faith in Jesus, seeking to stay with Jesus longer, and believe deeply in His words to them, all because one person shared their story boldly and endlessly. I believe Jesus is calling us today to do the very thing He called His disciples to do in verse 35…look, lift up your eyes, the fields are white for harvest. Many people can turn to Jesus like they did in our passage, and it just takes one person sharing the gospel like they did in our passage. How special would it be to know many people in your workplace, church, or city believed in Jesus first because they heard your story. Let them hear your story and point them to the Jesus they can pursue forever. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2754
