John – Chapter 2

  • But he was speaking about the temple of his body. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. John2:21-22 – It may take sometime for us to fully understand what God has spoken to us within our story. As with the disciples here, it wasn’t until after the resurrection that they grasped what He was speaking on that day. So as we hear things like “God works all things for the good of those who love Him” yet we are drowning in a mess of confusion currently, it may take some time before we fully see what He meant by that in our story. Be then patient with God. He’s proven trustworthy in our lives so even if we don’t fully grasp in the moment what He is speaking over us, trust His lead. Even if it takes till we are in Heaven with Him to understand what He is saying, know He knows what He is doing and has a purpose for what He says. • Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. John 2:23 – In our chapter we read about the time when Jesus turned the water into wine and when he cleared the temple of money changers. As people began to see what He was doing, scripture says, “many believed in his name.” These were wonderful signs, and likely we today would long to see such things ourselves for we believe it would solidify our faith so deeply. Yet, imagine being one of those servants at the wedding, or someone in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, but also knowing about the future things Jesus would do.  About all the healings, the exorcisms, the raising of the dead, and His own resurrection. Imagine them knowing everything we know about Jesus Christ. Their faith would be through the roof! And we, who know all about such things…wish for seeing water turned into wine. Let us remember how blessed we are by being on this side of the resurrection. God has blessed us with His word that opens ours eyes to see Jesus in such rich ways and to know our  God in wondrous ways. While yes, seeing firsthand some of the signs we’ll read about in John would be amazing, let us praise the Lord that He has revealed Himself to us through the life of Jesus and His written word. The question is how deeply are we seeking out our Lord who has revealed Himself to us? I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2752
