Jeremiah – Chapter 30

  • And you shall be my people, and I will be your God. Jeremiah 30:22 – To understand the fullness of this chapter, one must realize that the words of the Lord through the prophet weren’t just speaking about Judah’s current struggle. Yes, at the time this prophecy was given Judah was being besieged by Babylon and about to be destroyed. It wasn’t a good season for them for they were feeling to consequences of their flagrant sin. Yet in that space God was giving them the message of hope that He would return them to Himself and be their God. He would bring healing to them in 70 years by bringing them back to their homeland after the exile. He would bring healing to them by offering them the Messiah they had waited so long for and He would usher in a new covenant with the Father and His people. God was also telling them, and us, that in the later days, days that are still to come in the end of all days, God would bring healing and hope to His people and He would still be their God. How this should impact our faith life today is by reminding us that God’s short term and long term plan is us being with Him as His people and Him being our God. What God is doing today in our life is designed to draw us close to Him today, yet it’s also designed to draw us closer to Him tomorrow and even when all our tomorrows are spent. We serve a God who sees millennia ahead and is able to shape what is happening in our days to prepare us to be drawn close to Him in those future days. God’s heart is for you to be His people and for Him to be your God. Whether then it’s a miracle unfolding in your life or consequences for sin being dealt out, know the purpose is God drawing you near to Himself. • For behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel and Judah, says the Lord, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall take possession of it. Jeremiah 30:3 – Focus on that last phrase. God restores and gives, but it’s says they shall then once it’s given take possession of it. Meaning that while we can’t provide for ourselves what only God can give, when God does provide we must be willing to take a hold of it and accept it. Things such as God’s joy, peace, and rest are being given to all but we must take possession of them. God’s salvation it’s being given to all, but we must take possession of it. What then is God offering to you that you aren’t taking possession of? Why aren’t you? Know that if God’s offering it it’s something you need and He sees you worthy of having it. Whatever is keeping you from what God is giving you needs to be set aside so you can grab tightly on what God is giving. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 949
  • For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’ Jeremiah 30:17 – God will step into our story in ways no one else would and do things no one else could. Earlier in the chapter we read how their sin was incurable and all their lovers they had run to before are not where to be found. No one is standing up for them and no one is offering help for their hurt. Yet, as the Lord said in verse 11, “For I am with you to save you.” No one else was stepping into their story to save, but God did. No one else would help them, but God did. Learn from this chapter how futile it is to hope for help from places not of God. If the relationship isn’t of God or if the help isn’t based on God, then don’t expect the healing you need. God is the only true source of healing in this life and help outside of Him will only leave us still in need. Thankfully He is a God who is close and He is a God who welcomes the broken into His presence. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2162
