- Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.” Jeremiah 18:18 – Jeremiah’s message to Judah was plainly clear, destruction was to come as a result of their perpetual sin. Yet what we see throughout these chapters is that Jeremiah wasn’t the only voice speaking to the people of Judah. False priests were teaching false laws, false wise men were given unwise words, and false prophets were giving false prophecies. In fact many of the “false” individuals were speaking, and their message was contrary to that of Jeremiah. God said destruction was to come, these false individuals said peace was coming. They said that the people could continue in their sinful lifestyle for no harm was coming their way, that everything Jeremiah was saying was untrue and worthless to listen to. In the sea of voices saying one thing, Jeremiah’s words were clanging cymbals in the ears of his listeners that they just wanted stopped. I wish this wasn’t the story of our culture today, but it is far too similar. The world has so many “false individuals” giving false messages that are so appealing to the lost world, even to us believers. Our role though is to speak the message of scripture, even though it is so contrary to many of these false, appealing messages being given. Why? Is it just to ruin the fun the world is having? No, the aim is to open their eyes to the coming pain along that path and the freedom that can be found by following Jesus. Our words of “turn from your sin” to will be like clanging cymbals many will just want to shut up, but such words bring life to those willing to embrace them. Keep sharing the truth, for this world needs the truth of the Gospel. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3247
- And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. Jeremiah 18:4 – God is able to take something ruined and make something good out of it. We must realize sin ruined us. It made us unusable and unholy. God though took a hold of us in that state and reshaped us. He created something new out of our sin-ruined life that was good, useable, and holy. Just keep in mind that it was all God that did the molding. The clay in the passage would have stayed on the wheel ruined if the potter hadn’t come. Our life is changed because of Jesus. If you want to know more about Jesus and the change your life can have with Him, I’d be happy to share that with you. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 937
- The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will let you hear my words.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was working at his wheel. Jeremiah 18:1-3 – Yesterday’s sermon spoke on how essential it is to have a humble walk and approach to the Father and today’s chapter resonates with that message as well. The Lord leans into Jeremiah and says go to the potters house to hear my words. Jeremiah does what the Lord says and hears from the Lord. When we approach God how God calls us to approach Him, that’s when we find the intimacy with God we need. That’s said, if God says go there or come to me in such a posture, yet we don’t go there and don’t come to Him in that posture, don’t be surprised if you don’t hear from God. Jeremiah meet God where and how God told Him to and the result was clarity of message and closeness with the Father. We then should humbly listen to the lead of the Father coming to Him as He calls us to, not just how we want to. God is calling you to approach Him daily, seeking His strength in all things, and seeking His will to be done in your story. What then has your approach to the Lord looked like today so far?
