Genesis – Chapter 9

  • Genesis 9 Daily DEVO When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth. Genesis 9:16 – As with the rainbow in Noah’s story, we too have a symbol we can look on to remind us of the covenant we have with God. Just like the bow, the cross didn’t don’t anything for our salvation, it is though a sign for us to look back upon to remind us of the promise God gave us. Through the death of Jesus on that cross, we now can to die to our sinful lives and begin a new life of following God. The cross reminds us that we no longer have to be slaves to sin because we are now free! The cross is a reminder of our freedom. While in the weekend of Easter Saturday is a solemn day, we must never forget that we can look upon the cross and know the darkness of our lives was taken care of by our promised Savior. • When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him…Genesis 9:24 – We don’t know what happened. What we know is one of Noah’s son saw Noah naked after getting drunk and told his brothers about it. Apparently he did something to his dad as well, but we don’t know. Scholars will give all sorts of answers as to what Ham did, but we must remember we don’t know. Nothing in scripture here speaks to it. Which lead us to a point in our study of scripture we must keep in mind, don’t add to scripture. Anyone claiming to know for sure what happened here is standing on false grounds. Other times in scripture to we aren’t given all the details and it’s fine to discuss and wonder for sure, but be careful to not create beliefs and doctrine over things God doesn’t say. God gives us all the words we need to fully believe in Him and live our lives fully faithful to Him. Be careful to not add your viewpoints and your wants to the word of God. • I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” Genesis 9:11 – The flood waters have gone, the doors to the ark have opened, and finally Noah, his family, and all of creation that was on the ark can come out into the new earth. God gives Noah the same command He gave Adam and Eve, be fruitful and multiply. All plants and animals were now given to them for food, and God is even making a promise to them that never again will such a flood take place on the earth. As we read this, let us though remember that scripture teaches one day this earth will be no more. While no flood will come to destroy the earth like in Noah’s day, all that we see on this earth will one day be gone and God will create a new earth. I say this not to bring fear, nor to bring up even contentious conversation about end times study, but to simply remind you that investing in this world is a waste. Gold medals will fade, finances will drain, and fame will be forgotten. The things though of the Lord are eternal. While heaven and earth will pass away, His word remains forever. As we then are deciding today what our life is going to be about, let it be about something that will remain forever. Your life and time is far too valuable to be used for something that will eventually fade away. Know this, Noah was faithful to his command to be fruitful, yet will we be faithful to our command to be labors in that harvest? For one thing that is worth investing in that will last for eternity is the souls of those around you. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac  – Daily DEVO 2815
