- Genesis 46 Daily DEVO Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation.” Genesis 46:3 – For them at that time the promise of what awaited them in Egypt was beautiful so it makes sense to us that God would say to not be afraid of this journey. Yet we are familiar with what happens soon with the people of Egypt and the people of Israel. Israel is put under incredibly oppressive slavery for 400 years. While they didn’t know that was ahead in their story, God did. And even with that knowledge God said go, don’t be afraid, and I’ll be with you. Know that for you sometimes where God leads us will have some seasons of difficulty. Just know He is aware of what’s ahead and He sees what past that season of difficulty as well. Trust God when He says something. Trust that even with the pain that may come in this journey He knows what He’s doing and has the power to create something beautiful out of all this. - ….you shall say, ‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ in order that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians. Genesis 46:34 – They were Hebrew shepherds seeking to do life with the Egyptians. This would have been an abomination after abomination to the Egyptians, an idea they wouldn’t have even touched with a stick let alone lean into. Yet leaning into all this was exactly what they did. What this reveals is that God was moving so strongly before Jacob’s family this whole time. Long before Jacob needed the Egyptian’s heart to soften towards a family of Hebrew shepherds, God was working. Take a moment then to think about when God began working to provide for you the blessing you are currently sitting in. Most likely you’ll see that God began His work for you long before you even were praying for that blessing to come about. What that reminds us then is that right now God is working to prepare a blessing for you that you may not even step into for years. God is never not moving on behalf of those He loves. - Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.’” Genesis 46:31 – A joyous reunion has taken place, Joseph and his whole family, including his father Israel, are in the land of Egypt together. We see Joseph after their greeting say to his family he was going to go up to Pharaoh and make all the arrangement necessary for them to stay in the land. Now imagine though if one of Joseph’s brothers said, “Oh Joseph, don’t bother yourself with that, I’ll go up instead to Pharaoh and get things figured out.” Do you think Gad or Simeon or Benjamin would have had the same success in a conversation with Pharaoh as Joseph would? No way, this family needed Joseph as a mediator between them and the king of Egypt for them to be able to exist in Egypt. We also need a mediator between us and the King of Kings. We on our own could never find peace with God or be able to even approach His holy throne. What is so special though about our story is that we have a mediator named Jesus who has gone before us to make things right with God and prepare for us a place with God. Now, because of Jesus, we can have the promise of Heaven as our home for eternity and peace with the Kings of Kings. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2852
