Genesis – Chapter 41

  • Genesis 41 Daily DEVO Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh. “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father’s house.” The name of the second he called Ephraim, “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.” Genesis 41:51-52 – We see Joseph acknowledging that he’s come out of the hard times back at home and even says he sees how blessed he has become in this land he never asked to be in. But who does he give credit to for his success and victory? It’s God every time. We don’t see him in this story saying it was his powers or gifts that got him where he was at. He realizes it was all God the whole time. We need to take time to acknowledge this as well in our story. Like Joseph, it’s God who gives us success and victory. Every blessing in our life is because God gave it to us. Take time today to realize and thank God accordingly for all that He has done for you. • …and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. Genesis 41:54 – This depicts so perfectly the blessing of having God in your story. The famine that God’s warned would come came. The world, including Egypt, experienced this dreadful famine, but in the famine something was different for Egypt. They had bread. They had provision and when that provision ran out they had more available. This is the beautiful promise of God for those who follow Him. Like the world in this story and like even our world today, we’ll experience the pains and famines just like everyone else. Yet what we’ll have each day is our daily bread because of Jesus. Whatever it is that we need to make it through we can have confidence God will provide. Having a walk with Jesus doesn’t mean we won’t see famine in our story, but we’ll always have bread in the famine because of Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac  – Daily DEVO 1845
  • So in the morning his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was none who could interpret them to Pharaoh. Genesis 41:8 – Pharaoh, being trouble by his two dreams, seeks out his magicians and wise men from all over his land to explain to him exactly what his dreams meant. Yet, as we see from our passage, none could do as the Pharaoh requested. These dreams were revelations from the Lord and these false magicians couldn’t comprehend or understand the ways of the Lord. It wasn’t until Joseph, a follower of God, stepped in that God allowed His revelations to be understood. Allow this story to remind you that the enemy and the sinful world doesn’t have the answers. Our enemy can’t understand God and those who reject God can’t comprehend the Lord’s ways. Without the Lord, scripture seems foolish and God’s plans seems worthless. Why then do we so often allow those who reject God be the voices of influence within our life? Those who refuse to follow Jesus can never understand what God is doing or what He is saying within His word, so why would we ever allow their voice to be a dictating influence in our life? Be wise then whose voice you allow as an influence upon your life. If they reject Jesus, then their understanding of what God is doing will be lacking and flawed like the magicians from our passage. Yet if the voice you allow to speak into your life embraces a life of following God, then God is going to make clear His ways for them and for you. Check closely the pursuit of who you follow. If they follow Jesus, then they have access to the true understanding of what God is doing and what God is leading towards. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2847
