- Then he said to me, “Son of man, dig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. And he said to me, “Go in, and see the vile abominations that they are committing here.” So I went in and saw. And there, engraved on the wall all around, was every form of creeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel. Ezekiel 8:8-10 – In order for us to be of help to people in their struggle with sin, we may have to get dirty and may have to give some effort to the process ourselves. For Ezekiel God was showing him the sinfulness in the land and here God was showing him the sinfulness that was deep down that all tried to hide. Ezekiel had to dig and get dirty but as a result he saw the sin that was happening in the dark. Are you willing to dig, get dirty, and get tired all in order to help someone with the sin they have been trying to hide for so long? Know if God is leading you to help them He’ll direct you where to go and give you the strength to do it. We just need to be willing to dig when God says dig. - And before them stood seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and the smoke of the cloud of incense went up. 12 Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” Ezekiel 8:11-12 – In this chapter Ezekiel had his eyes opened to the true severity of the sin around him. Idolatry was in the temple, in the hidden rooms, within the lives of the people, and even in the lives of the leaders. Our verses show how the elders, leaders of God’s people, were in back rooms worshipping other gods. These men most likely would have led the charge to punish idolatry out in the open, yet in secret they did the very thing they punished others for. We also see they believed the Lord didn’t see what they were doing. Clearly they were wrong. Take heart today knowing God does see all. While yes that means He sees everything we do in secret, He also see everything else. He sees the evil being done, whether in public or secret. He hears the back room gossip and sees the destructive planning. Those that are against Jesus and His followers, who think they are free from any higher power’s punishment or sight, are very much in the sight of our God. Know He sees all, hears all, and He doesn’t let evil reign. Those of us then who are seeking to be faithful the Lord, even in the midst of evil in this world, trust God is in control and His hand is with you.
