Ezekiel – Chapter 6

  • And you shall know that I am the Lord, when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, under every green tree, and under every leafy oak, wherever they offered pleasing aroma to all their idols. Ezekiel 6:13 – Whatever we give our life to is what we’ll die next to. For those in our passage it was their idols. Today it can be our pride and we can die next to it hoping it will save us. It could be our good deeds hoping those will save us. Or it can be Christ Jesus. We can choose to give our life to Him and die by His side knowing full well He has the power to save us. Be careful then what you give your life to if that’s all you’ll have when you die. Don’t give it to something that can’t save you when Jesus is waiting opened armed to embrace you into Himself. Know He loves you and is the only thing worthwhile in this existence to give your life to. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1070
  • Your altars shall become desolate, and your incense altars shall be broken, and I will cast down your slain before your idols. And I will lay the dead bodies of the people of Israel before their idols, and I will scatter your bones around your altars. Ezekiel 6:4-5 – Now if you were coming to this devotion this morning for a positive, encouraging verse, then maybe this isn’t exactly that for you! What’s the message though we should hear from a startling passage like this one? God is speaking to the idol worship happening all throughout the land of His people and how even His own people have given themselves over to the worship of these false gods. He then is going to punish His people, as we see in our verses, for their turning away from Him and this worship of these idols. What we see in that is two-fold. One, that God is more powerful than these false idols. For He is able to destroy them and destroy their places of worship with ease. Two, that these idols won’t and can’t protect those that worship them. Many people may come and give their all to these idols, but when those same people cry out for help to their idols, only silence will be given back to them. Today let’s take this truth to heart. Many of the things we prioritize in our life as “idols” won’t and can’t protect us like we need. We can run to these things, seek out their help, but silence will be what we receive back. Know this is not the way God handles things when a follower of His comes seeking help. He is mighty to save and power is in His hands. He hears from His temple the cries of His people and He is an unstoppable force. In the sort of world we live in, we need a God that isn’t silent to our cries and Jesus is far from silent when it comes to the help of those who follow Him.
