- …therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, am against you. And I will execute judgments in your midst in the sight of the nations. Ezekiel 5:8 – Whenever you run into a “therefore” in scripture it’s always wise to stop and ask what’s the therefore there for. Here we see God saying He is against His people and will execute judgement on them. Why? We can read the verses prior to it to learn that His people have become so rebellious to Him that even the sinful nations were more faithful to their false gods than the people of God were to Him. Therefore God was against their rebellion and sought to teach them who truly was the Lord. For us today, let’s not let the devotion people today give to their idols outdo our devotion to God. Let’s make known that our devotion to the one true God is greater than what those around us give to anything other than Him. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1069
- And because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again. Ezekiel 5:9 – For a people whose history included things like the plagues of Egypt and Noah’s flood, this proclamation from the Lord should have stopped them in their tracks. “I will do with you what I have never done, and the like of which I will never do again.” We see this terrifying response from the Lord after His people had begun to bring idols into the temple and worship them rather than the Lord. While this message was for the people of God at this particular time, we can see just how seriously God takes worship of other things in His house. I believe we can take that to mean the ways we worship things, traditions, and personalities in the church over the Lord are disgraceful to Him, but I also hope we remember where the Spirit of the Lord resides now. The Spirit’s home isn’t hovering over the mercy seat or located in a particular building, but any follower of Jesus is the dwelling place for God’s Spirit. How then are we finding ourselves worshiping worthless idols in our life? Have we placed a dream future as what we are pursuing over pursuing the Lord? Have we allowed a person to be who we draw close to more than how we draw close to the Lord? Is a destructive mindset the voice we prioritize in our mind over God’s voice? Let’s be careful to not allow something or someone take the place of God in our story. For our God is a jealous God and He desires our worship to be solely given over to Him. Find however you may be allowing something else to receive your worship and redirect that to the Lord. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2346
