- And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing. Ezekiel 47:12 – In the start of this chapter Ezekiel sees water coming from the temple. As he is led to follow the water the trickle turns into a river that brings life as we see in our verse today. This water is the message of life that God is giving the world, the Gospel. That in Him, when we plant ourselves next to Him we grow as we should and bear fruit as we should. As plain as it was to Ezekiel when he saw the flourishing trees next to the river, so will it be plain to see how someone flourishes when they plant themselves next to God. Our mission is to show people this. Tell them about the message of life, show them what a life planted and nourished by God looks like, and tell them all that has been made available to them. Start today by planting yourself better in your walk with Christ. Grow well so you can show it well. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1111
- Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar. Ezekiel 47:1 – As a homeowner, hearing that water is coming from a place that it shouldn’t just makes my stomach begin to turn, but thankfully this water situation is one of beauty rather than issue. We have this water flowing from the temple, a trickle at first, then it becomes a full river the further it goes. It brings life to where there was death and fruit where the land was barren. This water changed everything. This water represents the message, salvation, and life that the Lord gives. It started with humble beginnings with the disciples, slowly grew at Pentecost, and has become a river of life for the world. We then as followers of Jesus must remember our body is a temple for the Lord. As with the temple in our passage, the water of the Gospel message should be pouring out of us onto the world around us. As it flows it will be the life giver to the dead and the fruit producer for the needy. It will change everything. Let’s embrace our role then as followers of Jesus who spread this life giving water wherever we go. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2388
