- He measured it on the four sides. It had a wall around it, 500 cubits long and 500 cubits broad, to make a separation between the holy and the common. Ezekiel 42:20 – The wall being spoken of is the wall that surrounded the temple area that was, as we can read from the passage, to divide the holy from the common. For us we need to connect this to a passage in the New Testament. Ephesians 2:14 says, “For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility.” Jesus broke down the wall. Now the Holiness of God can reach the commoness of man. This idea would have blown the minds of the Jewish people in Ezekiel’s time and it should blow our minds too. Let’s not take for granted this freedom we have to come before God like we do. There is no wall keeping you from God because of Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1106
- Then he said to me, “The north chambers and the south chambers opposite the yard are the holy chambers, where the priests who approach the Lord shall eat the most holy offerings. There they shall put the most holy offerings—the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering—for the place is holy. Ezekiel 42:13 – We see earlier in scripture that the priests were allowed to eat of the offerings given to the Lord. This was the Lord’s means of providing for those that served within His temple and did His holy work. Here we see just how holy God saw even this time. There was a special place in the temple to eat this holy food and the outfits they were wearing during this time were holy and could not be worn out among the people. What the priests were doing here was holy, and it should have been handled as such. Let’s keep in mind the work that God has called His followers today to accomplish is holy as well. This mission of spreading the Gospel and giving the Lord glory in all we do is holy work. Let’s treat is as such. Not as something that can be handled if we have some leftover time in the week, not as something that gets an afterthought, and not as something that gets a passionless effort from us. This is holy work that we are being called to. Let’s give this work the time is deserves, the thought it deserves, and the passion it deserves. Trust that God will provide just like He did for the priests who served in His temple so faithfully. When we treat the Lord’s work as holy work, we can have confidence the Lord will bless such a faithful walk after Him. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2383
